How quickly can you start IVF process after 1st consultation?
I am seeing Dr. Braverman this week for my first consultation. After 2 years of trying everything I can to avoid IVF, I think I have finally hit a point that I'm ready to move on and take that "final step".
I am wondering when I can realistically expect to get the process started. For what it's worth, I unexpectedly got AF today (21 day cycle - WTH?! ), so today is CD 1 for me (so I'll be seeing Dr. B on CD 4).
Thanks

I've never been to Dr B so I am not sure if he is any differnt but for me once i went in for my consult, both DH and I were sent to get bloodwork. Depending on your protocol, you may have to wait for you next cycle. Good Luck!!

I have never been to dr. b either. But if this is your first time seeing him then he will likely want to run some tests before starting an IVF cycle. So i agree with the pp that you will likely have to wait til next cycle.

Re: How quickly can you start IVF process after 1st consultation?
it depends what youve done with dr. B so far and what your protocol would be. i would assume if you are starting IVF and have AF that he would put you on BCP for about 3 weeks. during that time you could get testing done if need be. then youd start stimming after the BCP is complete. from that point its only 7-12 days til ER. the whole process if you are on a BCP protocol takes about 6 weeks from start to beta. but like i said, it really depends entirely on your protocol. for me i started BCP the day of the consult, but i had also been through 6 or 7 cycles with dr. B, as well as all of the immune/thrombo testing, prior, so it was easy to get started.
good luck!

I always read about women talking about going on BCP before starting IVF. Why is that? Is it part of standard protocol, or do just some people have to use it?

I am new at this but from what I remember the doctor saying they want to suppress your hormone production which leads to better stimming. They basicly want to control what your body does and when.

almost all IVFs start with a suppression of some sort to shut off your natural cycle. the most common are BCP or lupron. depending on your issues you will likely do one of the two for at least a few weeks before you start stimming. this is mainly so the doctors can have total control of your cycle and not have your body's own processes interfering.
