How should I present DH's 30th Bday gift to him?

I am planning a surprise trip to Italy for DH's 30th birthday. So excited!!!! I want to let him know about the trip on his actual birthday which is two weeks before we leave. Any ideas on unique but relatively cheap ways I can do this???

Put the tickets in a card or just in a plain envelope, mail it to him, or throw it in with the mail (if you get home before him) and let him open it up.

make a nice italian dinner.

fold the plane tickets into his napkin.

OR

make it a nice breakfast...frittata, cappucino, prosciutto...

and slide them in to his favorite section of the newspaper.

1) You can make up a basket with an italian pasta set (the big pasta bowl and four smaller bowls - you can usually find these at Marshalls/homegoods etc) and put in sauce, pasta, a bottle of wine and the tickets in an envelope.

2) You can put the tickets in a small suitcase, put the small suitcase inside of a bigger one and then wrap it up.

Depending on when his actual birthday is, you could also try to go to one of the Italian festivals, spend the evening there there and talk about how nice it would be to go to Italy someday and then say, oh wait there is something that I want to show you...etc. (preferably on a night when they have fireworks )

I'd go for trickery.

Get the BIGGEST box you can find, tons of packing peanuts, and bury the envelope with the tickets in the box! \

ETA - or wrap it in a box for something he'd really hate... like a vacuum cleaner box or something.

When will you be in Italy? I'll be there on my honeymoon for 2 weeks starting this Sunday!

Wow, nice gift!

I'd wrap up a couple of Italy guidebooks...it might take a few seconds, but he'll get it.

For DH's 25th I threw him a surprise party all poker themed. Then, his actual gift was a night in AC. So to show him I took a regular gift box and just put together different graphics..slot machines, 'welcome to ac" highway sign, part of my confirmation email about the dates, logo of hotel we were staying at, etc. Printed all the graphics on 1 piece of paper and taped it to the inside bottom of the gift box. Wrapped it up, stuck a bow and card on the outside and woila!

I happen to know a graphics disigner so I got lucky but you could probably do it yourself.
