How soon after due date to induce?
I was just wondering what everyones doctors practice.
I am due the 20th and my doctors do not wait a full week to induce. In fact they scheduled an induction on Monday the 23rd. I was fine with it when we scheduled it but now I am a bit upset that I might need to be induced.
Does anyone elses doctor not wait the full week after 40 weeks to induce??

Re: How soon after due date to induce?
Thanks for the replies ladies. I am just a little nervous about inducing so soon after the due date. I really want this little guy to come on his own because I am dreading the pitocin.

Re: How soon after due date to induce?
I plan on asking my dr at my appt on Thursday about this. I'm 38 weeks and he hasn't mentioned anything about induction so I'm hoping he is of the "let's see what happens" mindset! I'd really rather not be induced if I can avoid it.

Re: How soon after due date to induce?
my doctor said 2 weeks. I'm due this sat 8/21. If i go past the due date they will do sonograms and the biophysical profile or whatever other tests they do on those monitors 2x/week. If no problems or issues, they will wait 2 weeks. I am really praying I go on my own by this weekend! I've had enough!

Re: How soon after due date to induce?
If you are umcomfortable with it, I would absolutely voice your opinion. I get so angry when doctors push things on their patients, They are working for US not the other way around!!!

Re: How soon after due date to induce?
My dr's don't let you go longer than a week. I was recently induced 6 days after my due date. Good luck!

Re: How soon after due date to induce?
They can't force you to have an induction and if you and the baby are healthy there is no need to have an induction so soon after your due date.
Although many doctors seem to have adopted a one week past your due date "rule," negative outcomes don't start to rise until 3 weeks past your due date. If your sonos look OK, it is perfectly safe to go 2 weeks past your due date. Ask your doctor why he wants to induce so soon. I would love to hear what he says.

Re: How soon after due date to induce?
I was due on the 11th and they are planning on inducing me on the 21st so that would be 10 days. I'm really hoping I go on my own before that but it doesn't seem like that is going to be the case.

Re: How soon after due date to induce?
I am worried about the induction because I did not want to get an epidural and I know I will not be able to last without an epidural if I am given pitocin. I am going back to the doctor on Friday to address my concern and hopefully to see if there is more progress

My Dr doesn't go past a week. I was induced 4 days after my due date because one week was Christmas Eve.

Re: How soon after due date to induce?
I was due August 13th and I am having the same concerns. The doctor does not like to go past a week because he said it just leads to no good. He was thinking of inducing me today (5 days past my due date) but luckily was booked up because I was going to fight it, I want to give myself a chance to do this on my own. I had a biophysical yesterday and scored a 10 out of 10- she is very healthy just getting very big- est. at 9 pounds now. Friday I am going back for another biophysical and sono to see her weight gain and they will prob. induce me sat or monday. I am dreading being induced but also nervous because my little girl is pretty big. I do not want to wait too long and have them tell me I need a c/s because of how big she is. Sorry for the long reply-- just a touchy situation for me right now. Let's just keep our fingers crossed that we go before the induction date!! GL!
