How soon after your DC took their first steps....
where they walking all over the place?
It has been a month since Emily started taking 6-8 steps or so at a time. She can go a distance of about 4 feet but then she just gets down and crawls.
The majority of the time she crawls, and also likes to walk on her knees.
I'm just nervous because everyone told me that once she took her first steps she'd be ALL over and she really doesn't walk all THAT much....

Re: How soon after your DC took their first steps....
I would say a little more than a month (say 4-6 weeks) for my son - every time he made progress he had a set back. He stook his first 1-5 steps around 11 months. At the end of his 11, he got sick and stopped walking all together. After his b-day, he would do like 10-15 steps here and there and then got sick again (due to whole milk issues - started whole milk to find he was lactose intolerant and was a miserable kid for a good week) and stopped walking. But mid-12th month or so - he was walking all over.

It happens. Not always so fast. Fiona walks plenty. But when she is in a rush she crawls.

Well Julia took her first "real" steps right after her 1st birthday, and once she started she didn't stop! Crawling was a thing of the past, but every baby is different. I'm sure she will be up and running around in no time!

For a few weeks after Bella started walking if she fell she would just continue crawling to her destination because that was fastest...then she figured out that the fastest way was to find the nearest place to get back standing and then go...it was pretty quick and a noticeable change right away...

Re: How soon after your DC took their first steps....
One fo my boys startred walking around the same time Emily did, and he is only making it about 4 feet also. Once he wobbles, he goes down adn crawls. He would rather crawl since he is so much better at it.
Everyone told me oh wait he will be running in a week, but every kid is different. We just try to put him up on his feet as much as we can, and we find that he does it better when he wants to, rather then when we plop in in the middle of the floor.

My DD will be 14 months next week and she's doing the same thing...taking 8-10 steps, falling and then crawling the rest of the way. I guess it just takes some time until they get better at it!

Re: How soon after your DC took their first steps....
Don't worry too much... every baby develops at his or her own pace... as long as she CAN walk, she has reached the milestone, and that's all that matters. Alex started walking last week - she was zooming around the house the second day until she fell a few times, and now she's very trepidatious when she walks... I think a lot of it has to do with personality more than anything else...
