How soon can you take a baby to the beach?
How soon can one take a baby/newborn to the beach? Is there a standard age? Is the beach too warm for a baby? How do you keep a baby cool, without taking him/her in the water?
I'm just curious. TIA!

I dont know how old they should be but I know they cant be in the sun really at all and you cant put sunblock on babies until they're 6 or 8 mos old.

I would never leave my child in the sun... I would put him in one of those beach tents... just curious if there's a specific age when it's ok to take a baby to the beach.

My ped told us they changed the recommendation and babies can wear sun block right away, they don't have to wait until 6 months.

I guess the better question I should be asking is, is there any reason why it wouldn't be ok to take a baby to the beach, if they've received their shots?

Re: How soon can you take a baby to the beach?
Jack was at the beach before he was a month old.
He wore a hat, undershirt, tiny bathing trunks and slept in his infant seat with sunscreen
Less then 1 month
Then by less then 2 he would lay out in his sun shelter with his buddy Caleb who is 3 weeks younger
Less then 3 months
Under the sunshelter again
He has never been burnt at all and started playing in the gulf and swimming daily by 3 months
Once he started rolling we bought the Graco shelter thingy that rolls into a duffle/packnplay/tent and he used that till he was 11 months and walking. Now he is out in the breakers with us and loves the waves crashing near him and swimming.
He adores the beach and our beaches here (Florida) are Gulf Beaches with white not hot sand. Still no sunburns and he is constantly outside. I just use sunscreen on him everyday with his first diaper. I've learned water babbies stings his eyes and Banana Boat Baby works awesome for him.
Babies are super portable and sleep alot especially newborns. Enjoy the infant seat while it lasts. We only got about 3 months before he maxed it out. It's the summer enjoy the beach. Getting out to the beach and pool made me get my butt back in shape faster and feel more human after I gave birth.

Re: How soon can you take a baby to the beach?
We brought Christopher to my parents' beach house when he was just 2 months old. The only time he was really out in the sun though was for the boat ride and a short walk along the beach.

We were at the beach when my son was 6 days old, I just kept him covered and he was only in his diaper, it was a great outting. Enjoy!
