How soon did you know you were having twins?
Just wondering, going for my first doctors appointment friday. i am 6 weeks.
Twins run in my family, my sisters are identical twins, my brothers are identical - in fact i am the only non twin in the family.
my moms sisters are twins, and it goes back through every generation,
so i am just wondering when the doctor can tell it is more than one in there

Around week 6, maybe 7, but we were looking for twins as we did IVF.

I have heard that also, but how can 3 generations of identical twins, plus my mom having 2 sets of them be a coincidence?

hi Jill!! We have identicals (which don't run in families) and we found out at 6 weeks (our first sono). Are you hoping for them!?!?

I agree b/c my SIL also has identicals... there's got to be something to it but nothing's proven, I guess.

8 weeks.....and identicals supposedly do not run in families they supposedly just happen for some reason that doctors don't know.

I had no idea.. i was soooo sick and went to the Dr at 9 weeks .. There are Twins NOWHERE in my family.. Dh yes.. but he has nothing to do with it unless he inherited magic sperm from his dad( my BIL and SIL are twins)

you didnt! I have heard that in the past, but i am a believer that it cant be coincidence.
I would love twins, but i would also be terrified of the double work!

With my first set of twins I didnt find out until 20 weeks!!! But that was way back when your Level II was your first Ultrasound.....
With my 2nd set of twins I didnt find out until 12 weeks...despite 5/6 previous sonograms. Due to the position of the babies, in utero, you just could see them via transvaginal sono..it wasnt until they did a transabdominal sono that you saw both babies...
I too have had 2 sets of identical twins...its suppose to be fraternal twins that are heriditary BUT some people are just predisposed to having twins..All in all the Drs dont have a clue when it comes to identicals and most of it is speculation as to what causes this to happen..

Wow,all these double sets of twins!  
My mom is a twin and her sisters are also twins. (all fraternal though) One of my cousins, my mom's twin's daughter, has twins but so far non else. We are all just waiting!
