how soon is too soon to look for a new job?
2007 was an interesting year for me job-wise. after being at one place for four months i was laid off. i needed to take teh first offer i got so i went to a new place. two months in, my first choice place made an offer which i took. so now my resume looks like this:
job #1: summer 2002- fall 2006
job# 2 (where I got laid off) - omitted
job #3: winter 2007 - present (listed as senior account executive/freelance writer) since i'm still doing some work for them
job #4 (where I am now): spring 2007 - present
Now, I am not happy here for a variety of reasons and want to leave. Given the moves I've made recently, do u think I can start applying in january or do u think i should wait it out a year? somethign else?
TIA for your advice

IMO, if you're not happy with your job, it is never too soon to look. and since you have a job, any interviewing you will do will be from a position of power.

ITA. And in addition, certain industries almost expect overturn to climb the ladder so to speak. Just be careful to remain positive when talking to potential new bosses about why you are looking.

Re: how soon is too soon to look for a new job?
I always browse the job ads and network like crazy, even if I am happy somewhere. You never know when it's going to come in handy. I'm having work issues myself--I started a new job in April that just closed down in November. Basically, my company is paying me to hang around for this month and they will begin to train me in something new starting in January. I really am not sure I want to stay there long-term at this point, but I am kinda stuck for the next couple of months, since we just went into contract on our first home, and I don't want to screw up the mortgage stuff by starting a new job just yet.

You can start looking but the trick will be to get yourself an interview by wording your cover letter strategically. Once you get in the door you have to verbally explain why you hopped around a little (not your fault)...
I was in the SAME predicament and I just got a great job. The job before that I HATED - knew I made a huge mistake - so I started looking literally immediately.
I was at one job from 2001 - 2005
2nd one 2005-2007
3rd one March 07 - Sept 07
So, basically I left a good one bc of the commute. 2nd one was Eh - terrible boss. 3rd one seemed like a great opp. but they were psychotic. So when I got the interview for my current job I had to explain why I wanted to leave etc and it was tough but I put a positive spin on it.
FM me if you need help!
