How things have changed

So, after my experience yesterday, I was talking to my mom and she told me about when she was pregnant with my little sister in 1982. My sister was due in October, and my mom was a teacher, so she went back to work in September.

So, she goes to the doctor on a Wednesday, she was 38 weeks, and she was 4cm dilated and the doctor told her it was ok to keep workingChat Icon

Friday comes along and my mom realizes she is in "real" labor, they get to the hospital and my sister was born 45 minutes later and still in the bag of waters!

My mother's claim to fame is that she walked around for nearly a WEEK at 8 centimeters dialated!!!! Luckily she lived across the street from the hospital at the time- but you KNOW that would never happened nowadays.

She had me sister in 45 minutes....

it never ceases to amaze me what women went through to have children - even just one generation back!!

my mom's OB told her on a friday afternoon, at 30 weeks, that she was carrying a "big boy" and that "he" was "in a great position already".

umm... i was born that sunday, under 4 pounds. i was breeched. and last i checked i am NOT a boy. Chat Icon

My mother didn't have an issue with the timing of her labor but she did get a big surprise. They didn't do any sonograms so she found out the day she gave birth that she was having twins!!! My brother & I were 4lbs each so she wasn't bigger than normal.

Things like that don't happen today
