how to avoid telling people - update at bottom with new question :)
I am a really honest person and hate lying to people. I don't want to tell anyone at work that I am PG until I'm at least 3 months... I'm not even 1 month yet. I teach theater and my job is pretty physical - moving set pieces, etc. I can easily have kids do that stuff, but I am scheduled to go to shopping for supplies for our show with the art teacher on Tuesday. I can't lift anything! What do I do???? Do you think that if I tell her I hurt my back and can't lift anything she'll buy it? Maybe I should ask if she'd like to take the dance teacher instead of me since I can't really lift anything too heavy? This is such an awkward situation! Sorry I'm asking so many questions today! I really do value your opinions

Re: how to avoid telling people
No one at my job found out until I was about 22 weeks and someone saw my Level II sonogram on Facebook. But I also sit at a desk all day and had the luxury of wearing big scarves most of the time!

Re: how to avoid telling people
Do you have a special situation that disallows you to lift things? If so, then you'd be best to find one person at work to confide in so they can cover for you and keep your secret to 3 mos.
But, if you don't have some special situation outside of pregnancy, you can continue doing anything you were previously doing this early on. My son weighs more than 25 lbs - I am constantly lugging him, a stroller, an enormous diaper bag, etc all over the place. You wouldn't start heavy lifting after you got pregnancy but if you've already been doing it on a regular basis, there's no reason you can't continue.

Re: how to avoid telling people
I white lied when put in a position where I was almost expected to lift.....
I too am not a liar - nor any good at it - but I did say that I hurt my back doing something at home.
It's worth the little lie.
Good Luck

Re: how to avoid telling people
Thank you ladies! I don't regularly lift really heavy things, but we have an appointment on Tuesday to go shopping at this warehouse where we may find something we want to bring back to school that is heavy. I'm friendly with this teacher, but don't want to tell her. I also think she might guess if I tell the white lie. It sucks having to be in this position.

Re: how to avoid telling people
UPDATE: She emailed me to remind me we are going on Tuesday, since I'm going to be out of the building tomorrow.
Here is what I wrote back to her. I had the balls and did it. What do you think?
Hey,
Hope you had a great vacation. I'm so glad you sent this email, I totally didn't realize that the appointment was for this Tuesday. I was really looking forward to going, and I hate to say this, but maybe it would be better if you asked L if she wanted to go on Tuesday instead of me because:
1. I don't know if it will be too much for me to be out of the building for 2 days in a row right after vacation and 2. I threw my back out a few days ago. I'm OK but really can't lift anything too heavy.
If L doesn't want to or can't go, I'll still go (I really was looking forward to it), but I don't want to stand there like a schmuck while you and J lift/move heavy things - I would feel really bad!
So, I hope you have a good day tomorrow, and let me know if she wants to go in my place.
Thanks :) Shari

Thanks! She wrote back to me -- "I'll lift anything you need. It would be nice for you to go"... she is weird!!! But OK, I'm going. Hope its not too awkward.
