how to close out a bank acct
DH and I are trying to close one of our accts and move it to mine to become joint. The problem is when he went in they wouldnt do it without me and I am assuming if I go in they will tell me the same. SInce our hrs are all over the place can I just go in and take out in small increments?

be careful doing that - i tried that one time and the interest went in after - so i had like 17 cents so they charged me a maintenance fee for low balance - it took forever to clear up

But that doesn't close the account ... becareful doing that. If your bank requires a certain amount to be in there and you just empty it out with out telling them you want it closed Fees seem to be added.

This is a long shot but see if they will let him close the account if he has a copy of your id & a letter with your signature authorizing him to close the account.

If it is a joint account either party should be able to close it out...
The account has to be drawn down to zero before it can be closed. I would withdraw the money and then have them close it.

If it's a JOINT account with both names on it. Either one can close it!

it depends on the bank - the account has to be $0 to be technically closed at my bank - we can freeze or put the account in "to be closed" but its not closed closed until its at $0.
