how to counter the environmental effect of cutting down a tree??
this weekend, we noticed that there is a tree that (over the years) will grow to be a MONSTER OF A TREE right up againts the house. it is still a small tree. we were adviced by our inspector, that this tree needs to be removed because over the long haul, it's roots will do a lot of damage to our foundation.
how can i counter the effects of cutting this tree down??
please help
tia

Can it be moved to a corner area of the property away from the house?

not really, we have five other trees, and there is no place to put this particular one.

Then I would just remove it and then replace the tree with a small shrubbery and flowers. Like this:

Re: how to counter the environmental effect of cutting down a tree??
Can you donate the tree to a park or a school?
Also, click here to do a search for what kinds of trees would be best for your yard.
I think it's admirable and responsible of you to consider what this affect is going to have. It makes me crazy to see people cutting down trees for seemingly no good reason.
I personally love red japanese maples and dogwoods, they don't get too big and are so pretty. But I know the dogwoods at least have certain challenges.
edited to add: If you use the tree search, Long Island is zone 6 and 7.
