Neither DH or I have ever been there before ...

Are we beter off going there in bathing suit type attire and changing into dry clothes later ? Or is it mainly a dry attraction park Chat Icon

Also, for those who have gone to Williamsburg VA...Aside from Busch Gardens and Water Country are there any other family friendly type attractions to do/see ? We did get the Bounce pass ....not sure how far beaches are etc...Chat Icon

I have been to Busch Gardens several times as a chaperon on our Senior Trip. Our kids do not do the water park there and are usually dressed in shorts and t-shirts. There is plenty to do without getting wet! Have fun :)

So I guess the Sesame Street area is mainly dry ...I'll have to check the park map and plan our days Chat Icon

I do not have children but I grew up and live in Virginia Beach, Va (Williamsburg is about 45 minutes from me). I have always owned season passes to there and Water Country USA. You are going to have a blast!

I always felt most comfortable in an bathing suit underneath shorts that were made of a quick dry material like exercise shorts, a tank top and a comfy pair of flip flops. There are a lot of hills so if flip flops are not you thing I would recommend some sort of sports sandal that can get wet.

There isnt a water park in BG but they do have a lot of rides that consist of water from getting a good splash to all around soak and wet. For the kiddies, they have a section called the Land of the Dragons and there is a big section where the kiddies can get pretty wet in the water. I just think its best to be safe and wear gear that can get wet and dry off easily.

If you decide to head to the beaches and have the time to do it, I highly recommend it. There is a lot to do in Virginia Beach and its only about a 45 minute drive there.

If I can help in any other way just let me know. Chat Icon

No problem! Chat Icon

As a local, I would recommend the Chesapeake Bay (Chicks Beach). If you continue on I64 E from Williamsburg, take the North Hampton Blvd Exit and follow signs to Shore Dr (beach is off Shore Drive). This is where all my girlfriends with little ones go and where my mother used to take my sister and I. Reason being is there are no waves and you can walk out pretty far and the water remains shallow. Its very local like with nice beach homes. The only problem as a tourist is you wont find municipal parking but you can easily find street parking and you may have to drive to a restaurant for food as there is no boardwalk. Basically its geared primarily for a relaxing beach day. Here is a good website for that beach Likny. I love this beach but again, its very local and not a lot of attractions; however there are great restaurants nearby.

Then theres the good old VA Beach Oceanfront which is very densely populated, lined with hotels, the strip, boardwalk, shops, restaurants, entertainment and bars. (this is about 15-20 minutes from Chicks beach). You can find anything and everything at the Oceanfront but the beach is part of the Atlantic and not the Bay so needless to say there are waves. (A pro is that there are lifeguards on this end of the beach). You can walk to get food, beach supplies (basically anything you need). If you are visiting, this is a much more exciting area just full of people.

I think it all depends on what you are looking for. A calm, relaxing beach day followed by a good local meal or an exciting, chaotic fun filled day followed by a good meal but tourist prices.

Either way, I hope you guys have a great time. Let me know if I can help some more!Chat Icon

That is incredibly helful, thank you SO much for typing all of that out for me !
They both seem equally appealing for different reasons so we may have to try out both
