How to get BF baby to drink soy formula
Any tips on getting my BF 10 month old to drink soy formula or nutramigen?
She spits both out. She has a dairy allergy, but she has had milk based formula prior to finding out about the allergy.
I can't mix it into bottles of BM because my body doesn't respond well to the pump anymore. It will take me a 5 days to pump 1 bottle. DD won't drink frozen milk so I can't even try to store some mlk.
I feel so trapped. I can't go anywhere for longer than a couple of hours.
TIA!

Re: How to get BF baby to drink soy formula
I don't really have any advice, just wanted to offer
DS is EBF and it wasn't until he was taking solids at about 6 - 6.5 months that he would even look at a bottle of formula. I think once he got used to different tastes and textures it was much better. But I'm assuming your DD is beyond that.
Maybe mix it with her food or cereal (if she's eating anything mixable?) until she gets used to it?
Good luck!

Re: How to get BF baby to drink soy formula
My DS has milk/soy allergy and the GI doctor wanted me to replace several feedings a day with nutramigen for week to help his belly heal. DS wanted no part of it, even mixed with breastmilk. We tried Elecare next and that went a little better, but DS would only take about 2 ounces at a time. It took lots of effort to get him to drink each bottle. The only way he would drink it if I held him facing outward and walked around while he ate. The GI doctor said that a lot of older babies will refuse the formula since it tastes really bad compared to breastmilk. I have read online that some doctors recommend adding a little bit of sugar to the formula to sweeten it initially to get them used to the taste.

Thanks for the responses. I can't even get her to swallow one sip. I don't know what tastes worse...soy or nutramigen...although I think nutramigen smells like cheez-its.
I'll try mixing them with her oatmeal tomorrow.
Thanks!
