how to help

someone at work just shared with me a story that broke my heart.
her husband left her. he sold the house from under her and kept all the money and then kicked her and their adult kids out (they are college kids still living at home).

she's currently scraping to get a place for her and her kids.

i would like to give her a helping hand and show some compassion. what would be an appropriate gift to give that can help her out a little?

i'm thinking gift cards to walmart and/or target to help her replace a few things or to buy a couple of meals.

what else can i possibly do?
i don't plan to break the bank, but i would just like to reach out to another person and show some kindness.

I vote Walmart or target GC , I would rather have that to buy stuff I need, I would rather eat something at home, outside food is so expensive IMO

yes and yes.
she's an "old school" latina who believed in her marriage and that it was ok to have things just in his name (since she wasn't working at the time they bought the house).

when she started crying, i thought i would cry right along with her.

1) What a wonderful thing you are doing. I think a gift card to Target, or a general Visa card would be best.

2) What a prick the ex is. I have no words, except for the ones that would be *** on here. Hope his d!ck rots and falls off.

That is a horrible story! How could someone do that? And, to his kids too! I can't even imagine!!

Yes, I agree with previous posters. A Target or Walmart card might be best.

Re: how to help

California is a community property state. She needs a California lawyer to help her. I would give her a gc to Walmart or target.

I was just going to say that about a community property state. He can’t just kick her out and get away with it.

She probably won’t be able to eat. Target or Walmart GC is good. Even better is cash or just going over to help her do stuff (paperwork, etc.).

My ex-H just flat out left and I was left in a mess with no idea about bills and stuff. I just needed help with things. Food was the last thing on my mind.

Re: how to help

Ugh people are so horrible sometimes. How does anyone even do that to their spouse and kids???

I agree that a GC to Walmart or Target would help and maybe also a GC for her to get a facial or her hair or nails done. I'm pretty sure some pampering will help her right now.

thanks, everyone.

she's speaking with an attorney. her only concern is that he's burning through the money on women and wine and there might not be any left by the time a judge tells him that it's not all his.

i hope his d*ck falls off.

Then they should garnish his wages until he pays her back what he owes her.
What an unimaginable basttard.

I guess they didn’t have a joint account? She will get the money somehow by law. I know my ex took off, cleaned out more than he should have out of the account, but I got it back pretty quickly.

They will get the money out of him.
