how to not die?!
DS and i went out for a long run, yesterday. my app died at 18.79 miles, DS fell apart at about 18 miles, i fell apart at about 19.5 miles.
we ended up walking the rest of the way... we needed to get back to the car. i believe we covered about 21 miles.
how on earth are we expected to not die on the day of the marathon??!!!!
my calves cramped up! every step hurt like a mother. i did take a moment to stretch and that helped... i was able to walk the rest of the way relatively pain free.
i just pray that we'll be able to cross the finish line alive.
there are 8 weeks left. why on earth did i think i could do this lol

Re: how to not die?!
Don't say that!!! You will NOT die first of all.
Second, was this mileage part of your training program? Everyone has bad days and good days. Brush it off as a bad day. On to the next!
Also, remember that race day is SOOO different than training. Its almost like you have wings on your feet. No matter how crappy you feel on race day, you will get through it b/c you will have so much adrenaline.
I can't say you'll feel amazing once you cross that line but you'll get to 26.2

Re: how to not die?!
we were scheduled to cover 20 miles. during a walk break, DS acted like an ass and we had a little tiff. because of this, he took off running in front of me... he went further than the 10-mile-half-way-mark. so... getting back to where we started was further away.
it just felt like it was never going to end!!!
thinking back to the half (in may), i ran with a horrid knee pain and i lived lol barely. i'm stronger and healthier, now.
i guess the trick is to make sure DS is healthy (well fueled) i think he fell apart because he was not enjoying the fuel i brought with us and was refusing to drink it.
training is such a strange world lol
but hey! we covered a distance i never thought we could!!!

Re: how to not die?!
You can do it! Training runs are always so much harder than race day b/c you are out there all alone. And if this was your first time at a long long distance that makes a big difference too.
I'm assuming you'll get to do 20 again before the marathon? If so, you'll find it's a bit easier (though still not easy!).
The crowd and excitement of finishing will push you through the last miles on the actual day.

Re: how to not die?!
This is the purpose of training runs...figuring out how to keep your body fueled and able to make the 26.2. Your body now knows what getting to depletion is like.
Don't worry about walk breaks.
how was your fueling? Were you able to to take enough fuel?
And marathons are hard...but that is why it is so amazing to complete one and join the 1%.
