How would you feel if MIL wanted to tag along on a playdate?

We are going to Chuck e Cheese for Roman's birthday next Sat. Not a party just really a playdate with a few of his friends and back to our house after.

We are haviong his real birthday with family on Mon. Do you think MIL has a right to be insulted?

I would (and have) happily taken my parents and in laws along to babygroups, playdates, playgroups. It doesn't bother me. Leaves someone else to run around after the kid....I can sit around, gossip and dink more tea!! I think my family would be insulted if they wanted to come and I turned them down.

If she wants to go, fine...then she can watch the kids. Not if she's going to chat it up with you and your friends...Chat Icon

It is a little weird that she wants to come to a playdate.

does she want to come because it is his birthday?

I don't know, I guess I wouldn't tell my MIL no if she wanted to come but can't see my MIL wanting to come to a playdate.

I would be thrilled if my MIL wanted to (and if I got along with her Chat Icon ) I think it's nice that grandparents want to be involved.

I wouldn't mind especially since it's at a place. But I am pretty to close with my mil.

I think it depends if I wanted to "socialize" with the moms of the playdate. Then I probably would not bring MIL.

Because it is his birthday, I think it is okay. Otherwise, weird.

Not weird at all since it's at a public place. If she wanted to tag along to a friends house, that would be a bit odd.

she said she wanted to watch him interact with his friends. I just want to hang and chat about stuff with my friends w/o my mom or MIL there.

Yes, that's what I was saying. I would not bring her if you want to socialize. Especially if those are your friends also.

In this situation I'd think she'd want to come b/c she may think of it as a birthday party.

I would let her come. To me, it wouldn't be worth the possible hurt feelings and aggravation to say no to her.
