How would you feel if your child was punched in the stomach and the teacher didn't notify you because "they didn't cry"

My BF sent me an email yesterday and I was so upset. Her son started Kindergarten this year and is only 5 years old. He attends a Private (Catholic) school and I think it's ridiculous that they didn't call her!!

Apparently this kid who sits next to my Godson has been messing with him since school started really.
First he was writing on him with crayon, then he pinched him and my godson pinched him back. At that point she says she should have spoken to the teacher to let her know what her son was telling her, but she didn't.

On Halloween the kid just punched him in the stomach really hard during class.
My godson told her he didn't hit him back, but told the teacher what he did. She says she understands things like this are going to happen, but of course was upset when he told her.

What upset her more was she felt she should have been notified. The teacher told her she didn't call to inform them because he didn't cry???

Ok why does it matter if he didn't cry??? Isn't it HER responsibility as the Teacher notify the parents. I also think my friend should have called or gone to the school as well.

Shes' there now having a meeting...

I would be PIZZED... The teacher doesnt have to necessarily tell you what kid did it, but at least tell you it happened and change the kids seat.

I think it's wrong that the teacher doesn't notice a child being bullied in her class to begin with and then to do nothing about it...unexceptable!

call me a crazy mom, but I commend your friend for holding herself back from not going to her son's class and throwing this kid out the window..

Mine aren't in school yet, so I can only imagine what will happen if I come home to hear a story like this.

To answer your question, I would report that teacher.

Even though the boy looks okay and didn't cry, means nothing.. he could have internal bleeding for all you know?

I've heard so many stories about incidences like these where someone didn't say something because they assumed the child/person was okay, only to have some tragedy come about because of their assumption.

I would react accordingly immediately.

Good luck.

This is totally inexcusable. They are supposed to notify the parents as soon as something happens. My mother was a teacher for 35 years and I remember her calling all the parents if something happened, even if it was very minor.

The parents of the other child, did she call them??? I think they should know that their child is being a bully. I totally understand that boys get like this, but how are you supposed to resolve the situation IF YOU DON"T KNOW ABOUT IT???? Chat Icon Chat Icon

Good for your godson. He seems like a great kid to tell his parents and to be strong and not hit him back!!!! I would be very proud of himChat Icon Chat Icon

You and I think the same, because I told her I would have been in the school the next day and it would NOT have been pretty. My friend is a little on the "soft" side..but I told her she needs to start speaking up ..this is her son and if she doesn't do anything it WILL GET WORSE!!

He really is, but at the same time he's the SMALLEST one in the class, and I'm afraid he is going to get picked on A LOT!!! I told her to put him in karate or boxing so that he can learn to defend himself when it calls for it!! Violence is never the answer, but I think he can defenitely benefit from taking these classes.

I would lose it! I think about it now and my son is only 3. The thought of him having a bully preying on him brings tears to my eyes.

I remember one time when I took him to the playground and another little boy (with his mother watching), pulled my son's hair, not once, but 4 times! and his mother never did anything to stop him!

I just saw red like a bull and I was ready to toss the kid.

I would def address the issue. that poor baby..
