How would you handle this situation

i took my dog to the dog park - he was playing nicely with a few other dogs.

A new dog came in and tried to hump him but i dog crowled and said no - they each went there own way for a few minutes

the dog tried to hump my dog again - my dog responded back growlng and snarling -they ended up wrestling pretty agressively - no biting but lots of teeth shown and definelty not playful.

got them to seperate - i put my dog on the leash and left - we took a hike instead

i did not reprimand my dog because i thought he was right - i only put his leash on to get him out of the situation because the other dog's owner did not have his leash on him it was at the gate entrance about 100 ft away

what would you have done

FWIW you definitely did the right thing... your dog did nothing wrong neither did the other dog becuase hes just being a dog...

if i wanted to leave i would have... if i didnt want to leave yet i would have just made sure to keep them seperate... try and distract my dog...

Re: How would you handle this situation

You did the right thing. Unfortunately, there will always be people who think the dog park is a free-for-all and don't keep an eye on their dogs. It's why I generally don't go, the majority of the experiences have been bad.

One of my dogs is the humping target but he does not correct. My other dog does correct - she sharply turns her head and gets away, maybe a short sound or growl.

It sounds like your situation was a little more serious than that. It's good that your dog won't put up with it, but bad if it gets more serious than that because they could both be hurt. Chat Icon
