HSG
I did a search but couldn't find anything.
My new dr. told me when I get my next AF to call and make an appointment for a HSG. Now, I'm completely terrified of anything medical related and she did write me a prescription for Ativan which I can take to calm my nerves before. So AF came this morning (yay!) and I need to call to make an appointment.
I don't really want to know about the procedure itself because that will scare me even more, but I am curious as to how long of a procedure it is.
Thanks!

Re: HSG
The procedure itself took about 10-15 minutes. I found it uncomfortable, but not painful. I went by myself, and drove myself home. I took the day off from work, so that I could relax afterwards, but honestly, I probably could have gone back to work.
Good luck

Re: HSG
Don't worry, it's really a breeze. I agree with the above poster, about 10-15 minutes, most of it being set-up time. About 5 minutes of the actual test itself.
Good luck!

I agree-a lot of what I felt was pressure rather than pain. Def. take some advil 400 mg 2hrs before anfd 400 mg 1 hr before. You will probably have some spotting too. GL

Re: HSG
Thanks ladies.... I haven't even scheduled this yet and I'm a bundle of nerves already!
One more ?? was there a specific time in your cycle they did this procedure? My dr. told me to call when AF came and make the appointment, but never said anything about at what point in my cycle I should do it. Did you have to have it done while AF was in town?

Re: HSG
For me the anticipation of the test was the worst. The procedure itself wasn't bad. Take 3 Motrin beforehand and you will feel fine.

Re: HSG
No need to worry. I'm the biggest baby there is and I was extremely nervous about the HSG. I think the scariest part is actually be there and seeing the ex-ray machine and everything leading up to the HSG was the hard part...but when they actually performed the HSG it was a breeze, all i felt were little cramps when they inserted the dye in me. Just take 2 aspirins before you do the procedure. I heard if your tubes are block you might experience a little more pain. You will be fine.

Re: HSG
I agree with everyone else. I am the BIGGEST CHICKEN ever. It wasn't as bad as I had anticipated.
I think the worst part as with most of these tests is the buildup and the waiting.
good luck

Re: HSG
It isn't 1/2 as bad as I expected, don't worry about it. Usually they perform it from day 7-14. Which is why they want you to call on day 1, to schedule.

I agree with everyone! I too am a big baby and it was much much easier than I expected. By the time I got myself all worked up, we were done. I would ask the dr about what to take before the procedure because I was told NOT to take aspirin. Good Luck

Re: HSG
As everyone else said...the worst part is the anticipation, the test itself is not bad at all. Very slight cramping during the test and I had nothing afterward..went right back to work. They did mine around CD8. Take a couple of Advil or Motrin an hour before, someone told me this and it worked great.

Re: HSG
Thanks everyone!
I just scheduled my appointment for next Friday which will be CD10. I'm already a nervous wreck and feel like I want to hurl.
I go on Monday for a pelvic u/s (which I already had scheduled) so she can see for sure if I have PCOS or not.

Re: HSG
My u/s showed everything was perfect, no sign of PCOS, which is great news (soooooooooo glad I went for a second opinion)!
I do have another question about the HSG, I am scheduled to go on Friday morning (so sick to my stomach over this! ) But AF is still here (CD8 today) and in fact is pretty heavy. Will they still do the HSG if I have AF?

Re: HSG
I'm not sure, I don't think so but don't quote me on that. You will probably be done with AF by then, your cycle doesn't usually last ten days does it?
Don't stress out so much about the HSG, it's really not that bad and they gave you some meds to relax you.

I'm not sure about AF and the HSG but wanted to let you know the anticipation is much worst than the procedure. You will be fine!

Thanks again, I'm such a nervous wreck when it comes to medical stuff. Especially when it comes to Gyno stuff.
My cycle has been so out of whack for the past 6 months. It usually lasts 7 days (off the pill), but it's been getting progressively heavier. I'm scheduled for 9 am on Friday, so I'll see how AF is by tomorrow afternoon and then give them a call.

Re: HSG
I believe I still had AF when I went for my HSG.
Where are you going? I went to some place in Morristown on Madison Ave.
It wasn't that bad.

Re: HSG
today was postponed. The Dr. indicated he does not like to do the procedure if someone is still actively bleeding (sorry, TMI) I guess AF is making up for lost time, today is CD10 and she is still going strong.

Oh that sucks that you have to wait, it was so long ago I did mine I can't remember where I was in my cycle. I guess if that's what the Doc told you it's better for you, maybe they get a clearer picture? AF still after 10 days, gosh poor you. Did they give you a new date or do you have to call when AF goes?

I have to call when AF leaves because I can't be sure how long she's planning on staying.

No, off the pill I'm always 7 days like clockwork. But my cycle has been so incredibly screwy or non-existent since I stopped BCP last summer. Prior to being on the pill you could set your watch to my cycle. It's been very frustrating.
DH said AF missed me, this is why she's hanging around.
Sami - HSG (I will not even ATTEMPT to spell the name!) is a test they do where they shoot you with dye to see if your tubes are blocked or not.
ETS: NOT STUPID!!

Re: HSG
The place I went to recommended you call the day of your period for the appt., and they liked to schedule these between 7 and 12 days into your cycle, after your period is completely over, but before you ovulate. Scheduling this test can be tricky. I think I had to try 3 months before I got an appt.
I agree with many others, this wasn't bad. Some cramps, but if you take advil or something similar an hour or two before, you should be fine. My test was about 15 minutes, but I probably spent a little over an hour in the office filling out paperwork, and they wanted me to stick around after, to make sure I was okay.
I took the day off work also, but probably could have gone in--it really wasn't bad at all. Good luck!
