HSG question... sorry a little long... update

This is my first post on this board... I always wondered how you go from TTC to the Infertility Board but I found out in the last two weeks.

I went to a new gyn a few weeks ago and had blood tests, sono, husband had s/a. Everything looked good so she suggested making an appt with an RE. I couldn't get an appointment for two weeks (errr! - another cycle gone!). So I called my gyn back and asked her to set up an HSG in the meantime.

So I had the HSG on Friday afternoon (done by a radiologist not my gyn). Here are the few things he said (I was hoping someone might help interpret - I hope to talk to my gyn tomorrow).

First of all, I have fibroids that aren't suppose to be interfering. It ended up taking him 3 times to get everything in the right place (if you know what I mean) due to the fibrous tissue at the top of my cervix. He then mentioned that one side was a little clogged but the cf finally made it thru and that side looked good. The other side was a different story. He said they got some fluid thru but that side was a little shorter (?). They also mentioned that my uterus is tilted.

Anyone have any idea if any of this is good/bad? Also, I am still spotting today - which I am hoping is a good sign that maybe the HSG helped to loosen stuff up.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

10/17 - Just spoke with my gyn - right tube is completely clear. Left tube is blocked. She's not sure what it is blocked with. She suggested going to an RE to get an idea of successful chances with just the one. She said she's had patients get pg with just one. She said it would probably take surgery to remove blockage.

What do you think?

Re: HSG question... sorry a little long...

Well it's possible your tubes were blocked and he cleared them out so you have greatly improved your chance for conception this cycleChat Icon

I would be worried about the tissue around the cervix though. That may be hindering your DH's sperm from getting through. And I think the tilted uterus isn't too big of a deal, but others may know better then me on that topic.

Sorry you had to find your way to this board. It's not an easy journey but the support on this board will get you through it (and give you more info then you could ever imagineChat Icon ) Hope your stay here is shortChat Icon

Thank you for such a warm response. I am not the weepy type but on Friday afternoon it all just hit me... and since then I've been a little upset but trying to stay optimistic.

So I really appreciate your response...

I hope the HSG cleared any blockages that may have been there. I don't know much about the fibroids but I would make sure you have all your medical records and the HSG films to your RE before your first appointment. He/She may be able to shed some more light on things and use that information in developing your plan. Stay optimistic, hope is what will get you through, but this is such an emotional rollercoaster with great highs and low lows. We're here for you!

I would echo what 06 Bride said-you may want to look into the extra tissue around your cervix(IUI could help with that) Tilted uterus is normal-sex doggie style should be better for someone with a tilted uterus. Good luck. Hope your stay is short

Re: HSG question... sorry a little long...

Yeah, that's definitely something I have to ask my gyn about. I was a little surprised when the radiologist said this as I had a pretty thorough internal sonogram two weeks ago and they only thing my gyn said was that I had 3 measurable fibroids but that their location shouldn't cause a problem.

I also want to thank you personally, Melissa. I read a lot of your posts on TTC and the thing that stuck with me most was you saying "you must be your own advocate." That line went thru my head when I couldn't get an appointment with the RE for two weeks which meant it would be another cycle before anything could happen. That's when I picked up the phone and had my gyn set up the HSG. You are absolutely right...

Re: HSG question... sorry a little long...

The tissue on your cervix is probably a problem...if it's difficult for the sono tech to get through, it's difficult for the sperm.

When you go back to your gyno or your RE, bring the films and see if they think a hysteroscopy would be helpful for you. It can clear away the cervical tissue and they go into your uterus with a camera so they can get a good look at the fibroids.

And BTW, Melissa is 100% correct - you need to be your own advocate...I learned this throughout my journey and have applied it elsewhere now also.

Good luck.Chat Icon

Bumping - update... what do you think? Is there a chance I could get pg with just one tube?
