HSG Results
Ladies,
I had my HSG today and it turns out that both tubes are fully blocked. Next step is a laporoscopy to try to clear them out. At least I know what my fertility problems are now, but !!
Anyone else have this problem or know of anyone with this problem?

Re: HSG Results
The only thing I can say is that I have read and heard that the lap cleans things out really well and if that's the only problem most women conceive right away. My friend was the office manager for an ob-gyn so she is my constant source of information... ETA to add

Re: HSG Results
Ahh Susan I was thinking of you today and I knew you were having your HSG
I am so sorry to hear your tubes are blocked BUT if there is any way to look at this, you should try to view it as a positive. You can perhaps feel happy that you KNOW what is causing your infertility issues now and it can be treated!
I have had laparoscopy done, but I had it done to diagnose and then remove my endometriosis (which was also a cause for my infertility) Laparscopy as a procedure is done to diagnose and treat many abdominal issues and I can say that in and of itself, it wasn't a horrible surgery at all... i felt OK a few days after my surgery. BUT I do not know much about removing blockages in your tubes , however . In my case the endometriois was causing me to have severe pain when I had my period and it was covering my ovaries, but there were no real "blockages" to speak of in my case. I have still not conceived post surgery BUT I also have ovulation issues -so I have a few problems to deal with here, whereas your problem might only be the blockage!
Hang in there I am SURE this will all be fine and that hopefully this will be the one procedure you need in order to help you conceive down the road!

Re: HSG Results
Sorry I did not respond sooner, I was off doing research. Here are some things I learned:
The overall plan of action should take into account your age, length of infertility, ovulatory status, male factors and results of the first hysterosalpingogram (HSG)
About 10-15% of HSG's gives false positive results and there may be no blockage, only tubal spasm.
If the HSG is positive, (meaning that something is found), a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy is indicated.
I will keep reading up, just wanted to give you some info I found.
I am sorry your tubes were both blocked.

Re: HSG Results
My sister had the lap to remove her adhesions/endo also, and told me it wasn't bad. I'm thinking my blocked tubes are caused by endo also, and that they can remove it while they are cleaning out my tubes. You're totally right in that it is a relief that I know what it is, but the more I read about it online, the more upset I become, bc it seems I'll likely be going down the IVF road sooner than I'd like to, and that if I do wind up getting pg, the chances of ectopic are high. I'm going to talk to my doctor (ob/gyn) tomorrow. I'll let you ladies know how everything turns out. Thanks for all of your well wishes.
ETA: I did read about that tubal spasm too, but I think my cramping would have been a lot worse than it was if that was the case. I'll know for sure soon enough. Thanks for researching!

Re: HSG Results
I just wanted to give you lots more of these I know that its easy for me to say "be positive" about this (because hopefully once its treated you will be OK) but of course its hard to be postivie when you just found out today, and you weren't expecting this.. I would be as upset as you are so I just wanted to say Im sorry

Re: HSG Results
Yes, this was my problem too.
My OB/GYN did a lap to try to fix them. Unfortunately my tubes were too badly damaged to be fixed. They were hydrosalpinx (filled with fluid), and too badly scarred to ever work again.

Re: HSG Results
I am sorry On a positive note (if it helps), I also know a couple of women who had their tubes blocked. One of them had only a 20% chance of ever becoming PG. She had to have the tubes cleared twice and has two lovely girls because she was able to finally become pregnant afterwards.

It really is good news that now you know the reason for your infertility and can move forward to correct it. Hopefully the lap can be sceduled soon and you can start making a baby!

I have a feeling this will be my problem too, bc both are fully blocked. Did either of you ever find out WHY your tubes are blocked? FM if you'd like. I'm just at a loss as to why this has happened. I think I may have endo. Are you both proceding with IVF? Does your insurance cover it?
