Re: HSG tomorrow......
Hi there,
I had one done in December and it was painless...at least for me. I was nervous throughout the whole procedure but when it was done I said is that it? When they insert the dye in your tubes all I felt were slight cramps only for a couple of seconds. On the other had I heard if your tubes are blocked you might experience more pain but they weren't blocked for me.
Take two aspirins before the procedure and you will be fine. Good luck! A lot of people conceive right after the HSG including me, however mine didn't stick.
ETA: you will be to work after the procedure.

Re: HSG tomorrow......
I wasn't successful with my HSG because my cervical opening was too small. I was rather uncomfortable, but I had a different situation.
However, I think it is important to remember that everyone is different and does not respond the same way during and after procedures. We all have different levels of tolerance.
Definitely, take a pain reliever beforehand. You may need a pad or pantyliner afterwards (they will probably have one for you) as there may be spotting.
Good luck!

Thanks for responding....my doctor gave me a prescription for antibiotics to take today, tomorrow and the day after. I'm going to take your advice and take aspirin....is Advil ok? How long before the procedure should I take it?

I didn't have to take antibiotics, I would take the aspirin 20 mins before the procedure.

I had one and found it moderately painful. If you do a search on the IF board for hsg you can read lots of experiences/ I would take alieve or motrin. I had some spotting on the table but none after. I bled more with an endometrial biopsy

Nope. No antibiotics. I guess since it wasn't successful, I wasn't told to refrain from sex.

Is that true? My OB/GYN told me that it's very possible to get pregnant during that cycle and the next 2 cycles after that.

I read someplace that you should abstain from intercourse for two weeks after an HSG due to possible infection, but I also read that many women conceive shortly after having one even if it showed no abnormalities b/c it "opens" things up a bit.

Re: HSG tomorrow......
I had one and I was very crampy during and after the procedure. I took Motrin before and it didn't help. I don't remember if I was told no sex for 2 weeks after, I think it was only 48 hours? (my test was in 2005 so I don't remember). I had my IUI done 10 days after my HSG and I got pregnant.
Good luck!

Re: HSG tomorrow......UPDATE
Thank you ladies...I went this morning...everything went well...I felt cramping during and still some cramping now. But nothing major....I was told not to have s e x for 24 hours. My doctor gave me antibiotics to take the day before, day of and day after to avoid infection.
The doctor that did the HSG said that everything looked good but will give formal report to my doctor today.
