Huge tree removal - what did you pay?

I know there have been several tree removal threads but we have one tree in our backyard we want removed. It is huge. I've called for estimates already and another company coming tomorrow, but wanted to know what people paid to have a really large tree removed.

I had 3 large trees removed, and 9 medium sized pine trees removed and ground down. Cost me $1400 cash.

Cornell Tree Experts
(631) 474-8084

The owner was the first guy to come in and he had given me a higher price, but told me that I might get lower prices for not the same quality. I think he originally quoted upwards of 2k. Showed me his BBB ratings, paperwork etc. Really tried to sell me on using him. I told him I did need to get other quotes.

I had 4 other companies come in, the last one quoted me $1400. But I had promised the owner, that I would at least let him know that I was going with another company. So when I did and told him the price, he said he would match it bc he was looking for business. He appreciated me calling him back etc etc. (This was in March of 2009)

So I basically wheeled and dealed for that price, but it worked out and they did a GREAT job.

Depends on your definition of huge Chat Icon

That included grinding stump and removal

Re: Huge tree removal - what did you pay?

we had this done last year. its more expensive if you get your stumps grinded (which is what we did/wanted) i dont remember what it cost but it was reasonable and they did an amazing job! we used tarzann: http://www.tarzanntreeservice.com/

we just had them back over last night to get an estimate on something else.

also, be mindful of permits. we live in the town of oyster bay and they require permits for large trees (you can find measurements online)- we didnt do it since it was going to cost another 400+, but someone in our neighborhood called the town (people cannot mind their own business) and i ran over to the town, got the permit and only had to pay 100 (i think tarzann got a fine)

We have 2 quotes so far and the most expensive is $2600. I have no idea how old our tree is, but it's huge.

I had 1 small oak tree, 1 small dogwood, and 1 HUGE Catalpa ( about the the width of people holding hands around the tree and HUGE roots throughout my backyard) and we paid $900. He was also the guy who was doing our front walkway and stoop, so I think he gave us a discount because we hired him for everything.

Re: Huge tree removal - what did you pay?

My dad recently had two gigantic trees removed. One was about 5 feet in diameter and the other was in a really tricky spot to cut down, since it was pretty much growing out of a steep hill and hanging over the house. I think he paid around $2000.
