human food....
with all the news about tainted food - does this make you want to feed your dog human food?
I usually give Bailey dry food and mix in green beans and carrots. he loves them (I just steam them)
I'll give him a bite or two of meat on occasion, but mostly he gets veggies.
is it bad to give them too much "human" food??

Re: human food....
i read this article in New York Dog magazine about feeding human food.
alot of people are oposed to feeding their dogs ppl food. some because htey dont want beggers... others cuz htey think it is bad for them.
human food is actually not bad for dogs. with the exception of certain foods.
i wouldnt mind cooking for them, but the thing is that i dont have meat in the house. me and dh do not eat meat, and im definatly NOT going to buy some for the dogs. i love my dogs, but it grosses me out and i wont do it. i could feed them a vegetarain diet, but i feel like they do need some meat afterall.
i only shop from holistic dog food stores. so, they dont sell any of the foods that were recalled thank god.

Re: human food....
Yes no more dog food for my dog. I will be cooking for him from now on. Honestly, when I was little my dogs never ate dog food....they ate whatever we ate and they lived long and were healthy. I think as long as it's healthy, lean meats, rice, veggies etc it's as good for them as it is for you.

Re: human food....
I was just reading a book "The Dog Whisperer" (not the same guy as on TV) and he recommends human food over dog food. The thing is, Scout eats a lot and I don't even cook that much for DH and me.
He recommends brown rice, with some protein be it chicken, salmon, liver, beef..and veggies - carrots and zucchini especially. I will see if I can find his "ultimate" recipe.
Dog food is made with the 3Ds - carcasses that are diseased, decayed and decomposed. It is enough to make you ill if the pet food recall didn't already...

Re: human food....
Tiger will NOT eat canned dog food, he will only eat either boiled chicken or chopped meat. Now that is the life

Re: human food....
We do give Jersey dry food, never wet, but we also give her boiled or steamed chicken at night on top of her dry food. She loves it and hasn't become snobby about eating her dog food. She also gets plain yogurt, peanut butter (sometimes mixed), rice and some veggies or cheese every now and then. She'll also get an egg cooked in a little olive oil every once in a while. The oil seems to have helped her dry skin.

I've actually contemplated going raw for Luna. She has so many digestive issues.... I chatted with a woman on a CC web forum who went raw for her Chinese Crested. She was having a horrible time with the dogs skin allergies & digestion. She raves about it!

I have a friend who does this- she has one day a month that she makes all the food, then freezes it. She says it's a hassle, but it's only once a month and she's seen such an improvement- and her dog LOVES it. Hmmmm- maybe then Luna will leave the CAT FOOD alone.....

Re: human food....
There was an article in Newsday about raw foods, it's called BARF, can't reememebr what it stands for, but you can have the raw diet mailed to you. There's also a place in Huntington who specializes in BARF.
It is a LOT of work though. I honestly don't even have time to cook for DH and I, and I am not too keen on the raw germs for US, I would be so paranoid about cleaning......
It does seem like it's a great option though....

Re: human food....
I always give me dog human food. I buy him chicken liver, boiled chicken, brown rice, veggies and he loves it.
As for the dry food. He is on Evolve now I'm going to start him on Merrick Puppy Plate. I heard it's a good organic food.
