Hurricane Ike

is scaring me. Looks like it's going to SLAM into South Florida the beginning of next week - already a category 4 hurricane - I know a lot of people who are planning on leaving. Not so easy for us with the pets...Chat Icon

Re: Hurricane Ike

I know, I'm worried about DH's grandparents. They are in their 90's and can't travel. They live in Delray Beach. My ILs are in Boynton and help them out but if they can't get down Jog Rd what will they do?

Re: Hurricane Ike

A few hotels there take pets. I think the LaQuinta Inn on the West coast does. My grandfather's widow has had to evacute a few times with the dog.

Re: Hurricane Ike

My mother and grandmother live in S.Florida.

That really bad hurricane (I think 3 years ago, in late October) totally destroyed the building adjacent to the building my grandmother lives in. Even know, the people that live(d) there can't get back because it was condemed and they are in the process of rebuilding it.

Re: Hurricane Ike

Yeah - there are definitely hotels that take pets - we just drove back down to Florida last weekend and stayed in one - just a big expense and tough on the pets. Ugh - my guess is we will ride it out down here. Two of my friends who are police officers down here are telling me we may have no choice but to go to a shelterChat Icon Our family down here is 15 minutes north of us - so no one further away to really escape to. Have to see what happens - but maybe we'll just get in the car and drive north until we run out of gas and stay wherever we can!

Hi I usually lurk on here and you girls and guys are quite amusing. I am moving to South Florida, Port St Lucie on Monday. I cannot beleive it I know it is hurricane season but the last time I moved to PA they had a severe flood and people were evacuated so I guess I am bad luck. LOL Hope everyone stays safe
