I know. It looks sick. They are still expecting it to hit tomorrow right? Last night they said they were having all the highways run north so people could leave

Re: Hurricane Katrina
WOW. Scary stuff. It hit florida at a category one and did damage. They are expecting it to hit there as a category (was it a 3 or 4) and it still could strengthen.
I hope people arent stupid and they really LEAVE. Dont stay home to wait it out!

Re: Hurricane Katrina
Yes, they are talking of a storm surge of 20-25' which is going to break the levys that New Orleans has and flood the city.

She posted on the parenting board that she was leaving to go to her mom's in NC. So I don't think she's even at home anymore.

Re: Hurricane Katrina
Yesterday it poured. It was raining so hard I could not look out the window. People from LA were calling us to get hotel rooms in TX. Most hotels were booked solid.
A lot of times a state of emergency is declared to prevent price gauging. Jeb Bush does that a lot for FL this way it stops the price gauging. Price gauging is illegal and has a lot of hefty fines if you are caught. It's mostly done for the safety of the consumer.
For those who are unaware of what price gauging may be, it's when stores jack up their prices to insane prices. For example, ply wood normal price lets just say $3.00 a piece, hardware store knows it's a hurricane and people are desperate price $11.50 a piece. By declaring a State of emergency will prevent that from happening and if you are caught you can get into a lot of trouble.
