Hurricane response workers
Some DOE teachers I work with, who live in the city, have recieved calls they may be called into work to help with the shelters. Anyone else hear this?

Funny because I recieved a few calls from NYC(an automated messgae), and had no idea how they had my # to call me since I live out on LI. But...I teach in NYC so I GUESS this is why...

No calls here, but I know a lot of people who did get calls. When I first heard about it I thought someone was playing a practical joke on my friend.

I've gotten three calls. They even left a message saying that city employees who volunteer would get paid. I have a six month old, a 70 year old grandma, and my parents to take care of. So my house is a shelter all on its own. So no volunteering for me.

A bunch of people I work with have gotten phone calls. Once was told even where to report! They can't make you go.

I got 4 yesterday and 2 today. They ask you to volunteer, and to press one if you are interested and two to decline. It is not presented as mandatory at all. I guess it's their way of recruiting. I pressed two the first 3 times, now I just hang up!

I got several calls. As others have said, it's voluntary.
I hope everyone in the city is safe, but it galls me that Bloomberg love to bash us and then wants us to volunteer to help make him look good.

I teach in NYC but live on LI. I have also received 6 calls. I am not surprised that Bloomberg would expect the teachers to go out in the hurricane since he expects us to come to work in the snow as well.

i have received 6 calls so far! todays call was at 6:45am. NOT COOL. i live in east islip. im pregnant. i said no thank you. now they're just pi$$ing me off!!

I've received like 10 phone calls, between DH and I both being NYC DOE teachers. They called yesterday at 9:45pm (when the baby was sleeping) and today at 7 in the morning (when the baby was sleeping and woke up!!!)

I kept getting calls from an unknown number yesterday and today about 6 times, maybe this was it? I don't answer numbers I don't know and they didn't leave a voicemail.
