Hurt ankle advice- Updated with ER visit
So this morning Ryan woke up and said his leg hurt and was limping. I assumed it fell asleep and was like pins and needles. He continued to limp and later I assumed he was just being silly since now I was paying attention to his foot. You see lately he tells me things hurt all the time (teeth, pee pee) but it goes away. Well, he has continued to limp all day. His right foot only touches with his toes. He doesnt want to walk much either. However, he has not once cried, isnt complaining that it hurts (not even when I twist, bend or apply pressure to his ankle. There is no redness or swelling. I have no idea whats wrong? Of course the ped is closed and I am not sure its an emergency since he is not complaining. Would you bring him to the ER? call the pediatrician? (what could the possibly tell me) Or just wait and see?

Re: Hurt ankle advice
I think maybe call your ped and ask. I was just talking to my cousin today and her daughter was holding her elbow, they thought she dislocated it (nursemaid's elbow) and the hospital thought they put it back, but it still hurt her, the x-rays showed a hairline fracture and she needed a cast.
good luck

Re: Hurt ankle advice
I know the girl who works in the office of my Pediatrician and she said people call the Emergency number ALL the time even when it is not an emergency. She said some people are nuts about it but it sounds like you have a valid reason to call so I wouldn't even worry about doing it. You have reason to be concerned.

Re: Hurt ankle advice
so my anxious DH came home from work yesterday and freaked out when he saw Ryan walking and wanted to go to the ER right away. I convinced him to wait till morning and if it wasnt better we'd call the MD. Well this morning Ryan woke up and after his first step went to the floor and started crawling instead to his Easter baket. DH insisted we go to the hospital. I wanted to call the MD first but DH felt no matter what they said we should go anyway so I felt why bother.
So we got there at 10AM and by then he was walking a little better (isnt that always the way). They gave him some Motrin around 12 (why didnt I think of that) and he really got much better. Well... 8 hours, tons of x-rays and some bloodwork later. We are home with no answer, everything came back fine thank goodness. And now he is walking 99% normal. We have to follow up with the ped tomorrow.

I'm glad to read that he's on the mend.
And for you. Having them give blood is always worse for the parents.

I am so proud of my little guy he was such a trooper. He cried but not like I thought he would but he just kept saying it hurts it hurts. I was at the nurse who took for ever to draw three tiny tubes.
