eta. also a bonus is an arbitrational compensation that can be taken away. Salary is a whole other issue.

it depends - right now i work in a bonus based industry, so I like the fact that there is the potential for a large bonus at year end if my company does well. I am willing to take the risk that it will be small, instead of having a higher base salary.
But can i ask how you would get a tax free bonus? something seems a little odd about that.

In my check. It guarantees me the most after tax money and I get to have my 401(k) money deducted from it as well. That's how I have it at work now.
