I admit it- I LOVED the Sopranos finale!
I thought it was PERFECT! I knew there wasn't anything wrong with the cable. DH was ready to kill something and I was sitting on the couch laughing at him.
I thought it was PERFECT!
The guy went to the bathroom- that's it.
They focused on the other "shady" seated character who I am certain played Davey a few seasons ago- the guy who owned the sporting goods store whose son went to school with Meadow and ended up losing his truck because his father couldn't pay off gambling debts to Tony. I think the only reason they focused on him was to show us another old character.
For a minute, I thought about Tony being shot and that's why it went black, with Meadow having been the last thing he saw. But, they started that angle from when she was still outside coming from the street and he wouldn't have been able to see her out there. So, that's why I dismissed the idea that it was from Tony's perspective and ended when he died.
To me, the whole point was to leave us with a "what's going to happen" feeling, the same feeling that Tony and his famiy would always have.
And, IMO, the crappy diner didn't have anything to do with going into witness protection. It's just typical NJ- no matter how much money any family has, they're always going to end up in some crappy diner for dinner every now and then. It's just typical life.
**ETS: I don't think there will ever be a movie. I think a decision was definitely made to NOT kill Tony, but I don't think the motive for that decision was for making a movie.

Re: I admit it- I LOVED the Sopranos finale!
i think the writers did what they did so that they always have the option of a Sopranos movie. it also doubles up leaving us in suspense and having to come up with our own conclusions as to what happens to the Soprano family.
for me, i was soooooooooo pizzed and frustrated last night when it just ended. but i hope there is a Sopranos movie where we have some kind of closure...

ITA with you re: your analysis.
I liked it but would have been fine if last week's episode was the finale.
I don't like pat endings where the expected happens.

I absolutely agree. I thought the ending was brilliant. David Chase is a mastermind!

I agree - I thought the ending was absolutely perfect.
We know that Tony goes to jail (based on the FBI guy's comment "we won" when the other guy informed him that the NY guy was killed)...and it ends the way Tony predicted - it all goes to black.
I thought, being that it was a show about family, it was fitting that the show would end with dinner and family.

I agree. I agree with all the posters. The end was good. Not expected but still very good. They had their bloodbath the week before.
