I am changing the question...if you have turned in lease recently have you had to pay a fee?
I don't recall every paying a fee but I just called VW and they said that all companies are doing that now. I have never turned a car back to the original dealership though, it's always been another make.

Yes, I did just return a lease through Mercedes and have to pay a fee. I don't think this is anything new with them.

I turned in my Honda in August and did not have to pay a fee. My dad has turned in a few Honda's and never had to either.

I don't see how they can make you pay a fee that is not in your lease agreement
I just checked mine- and the only listed fees are $150 if you BUY the car (which I am doing since I am so over mileage)

disposition fees are detailed in your lease agreement. They cannot charge you a fee if there is no stipulation in the contract.
Having said that though, if you don't get another same make then they can, but it's always in the lease agreement.
It's really hard to negotiate that.

Re: I am changing the question...if you have turned in lease recently have you had to pay a fee?
I have leased and never had to pay and this returning it to different dealerships. My SIL has VW that she is returning and they told her she needs to pay $250..for an acquisition fee....I called another dealership and asked and the guy said it was for paperwork. Now, if she went with another make car that she would still have to pay that?
I think it is ridiculous that you have to pay a fee for paperwork when people are already getting paid a salary for this job.

Yeah, it is in the lease, it's a disposition return fee or something like that. It's $595 and I hate that they do that. It's crazy. But I am sure taking my time to pay them that money.... lol

We just turned in out Honda Accord early but b/c we got a new car, the Honda 2 dr. Coupe the took it back with no fees.
I wonder if you get another car from them, they waive those fees.

Yep. Chrysler Financial now charges a fee for turning in the lease. They waive it if you lease again through them within 60 days

I turned in my Honda CR-V in late June and did not have to pay a fee. That was with AHFC.

Exactly, I don't know why Mercedes does that, I did not want another car from them so I have to pay the fee now.

If I returned my Jeep without getting another Jeep/Dodge/Chrysler right away i'd have to pay a fee. But, I got another Jeep so I didn't have to pay it... which i'm not even sure how much it would have been.

I don't think Chrysler Financial is leasing anymore.
I have a lease through Nissan and there is no fee to return the truck. DHs lease is through Chrysler Financial and he has to pay a fee if he wants to buy the truck out, but not to simply return the lease. I think it's different for every company.
On a side note, my BIL told me yesterday one of his friends went to return a leased Cadillac Escalade and the dealership refused it. They told him he could return it to some place in NJ. He refused and ultimately the bank sent a tow truck to pick up the truck a month later and take it somewhere it would be accepted.

probably to the auction place in NJ
my Uncle drives the cars out for the auctions- he says it all HUGE SUVs
I am hoping that I will be able to get a lower price for mine then is listed on my lease agreement- b/c they aren't going to want an over mileage SUV back

You'll prob be able to. DHs truck is scheduled to go back in February. The dealership just sent him a letter explaining his options and in it they mentioned that he may be able to buy the truck for less than the agreed residual price.
