I am FUMING right now...a long vent.
My boyfriend has health insurance through BCBS for Rylan and himself...pays $90 out of each check.
At Rylans 9 month checkup they told me he had no insurance when I first got there...I said it was impossible and by the time I left it was blamed on a glitch in the system. I said ok and never questioned it. I just took him on monday for his 12 month visit. Again I go in and they ask for his new insurance card. I said he doesn't have one...we haven't switched. She said his insurance was cancelled as of 2/1. I again say it's impossible and had to sign a waiver saying I would pay the bill myself. I go to the pharmacy to pick up his vitamins and the same thing happens so I paid cash for it.
I called Danny when I got out and he happened to be at the shop so one of the secretarys called the boss for him. He was told that they would look into it. Later that day he gets a call from one of the bosses saying they paid Feb late and March was paid on time so everything should be ok...give it a few days. OK...no problem.
One of his co workers just called him and said he just went to the Dr and was told the same thing so Danny called BCBS and was told the insurance was cancelled as of Feb. KEEP IN MIND THEY ARE STILL TAKING HIS $90 EACH CHECK!!!!! For what...they're not paying the bill?????? It's 2 brothers who own the company...they make $$$$$$$$$$...Danny alone has made them $70 grand a month. They can pay the bill...they just choose to pay themselves first.
What if something happened to Rylan and he wasn't covered???
On top of all of this they recently had a meeting about switching the insurance to HIP because it's cheaper. Put 2 and 2 together!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have so had enough with this shady company...there have been soooo many other things happen too. If he doesn't have insurance reinstated asap he better start looking fior a new job!!!

I would give them the bills-if they cancelled your insurance without telling you, they can pay the bills.
I would also try to get the truth about the insurance-will they get it reinstated or not because otherwise you have to figure something out. That is terrible of them!

I agree. I think it's aweful that they're leaving their employees and their families with no insurance! I'm sure you don't want to take it this far, but you could totally sue them! It has to be illegal for them to cancel insurance without giving proper notification to their employees, and the fact that they've still been taking money out of his check weekly. That's just ridiculous!

Re: I am FUMING right now...a long vent.
I would be livid too...I would maybe have Danny speak to the boss directly and let them know that they spoke to BCBS and see what is up and see if they will give him the money back. That is a lot of money to loose out on.

Re: I am FUMING right now...a long vent.
I saved the bill for the vitamins and will save the BCBS bill when it comes. They had better pay him back the $90 a week he's been paying for the last 2 months too.
When he picks up his check today I told him to sit in the office and demand to speak to the boss...not to go on anymore calls until he does. I also told him to have the boss call BCBS with him there and have them explain what is going on and if it will be reinstated. There will be a war here later on if he doesn't!!!!!

If they don't resolve it asap and give him his $ back I have no problem going this route!!

It's a NYS policy that no kids gets left behind. I would enroll him on chlildhealth plus. Go online to empirebcbs and print out the application for child health plus.
He needs to be covered and you can't wait around or count on shady people when it comes to you sons health.

That's just not true. Everyone qualifies for child health plus. You will have to pay a premium each month.
http://www.nyhealth.gov/nysdoh/chplus/who_is_eligible.htm
You can choose your plan, you should just go with Empire. Print off the app, send it directly to them (bi pass social services altogether). They will have him effective by May 1st if you provide your docs this month.
ETA, it's really good insurance, no co-pays or out of pocket expenses other than the monthly premium, ever. I know many working families over the income qualifications for the subsidized coverage that have CHP for their children, as their employer based coverage is too expensive.

I'll look into it again. When I first went for unemployment they had a representative there and they were the ones who told me I made to much . I would rather have him on that then rely on his company. I'll look into it today...thanks.

Maybe it was family health plus they were referring to (covers the entire family, this just for kids and their income limits are very low from what I've read).
Good luck and I hope your BF's employer gives him the money back he has been paying!!

It's actually fraudulent for them to be withholding funds from his paycheck that is intended to be attributed to insurance. If I were him, I'd begin looking for another job and definitely contact someone at the Department of Labor. It sounds like he works at the company my sister works ... she's having the same problem.

CHP is great - we have it for our DD and between DH's salary and mine we were paying the highest premium for DD but now that i am pregnant it has gone down. EVERYONE is entitled to this even if you have to pay the highest premium.
Good luck - that completely sucks

We have child health plus for the fact that I know Kaydyn will always be covered. We make too much money as well so we pay full premium every month, but we don't pay co-pays or anything for prescriptions.

Re: I am FUMING right now...a long vent.
I would call the Labor Dept and ask what to do. I would also get my child on emergency insurance. You are now responsible for payment of the 12 month visit bill as well. I agree, I would be VERY worried. Can you elect COBRA from your old job? There are new rules that you can go back and elect it again.
