I am going through a very hard time with my 9 month old

So I am always offering advice, lol...but not sure how to handle what I'm going through right now.

The last two weeks have been hard. My son is cutting his upper teeth. For a majority of the day, it is like he is biting on razor blades with the way he cries.

I do get relief at night, which is odd..you'd think he'd be up at night, but nope...sleeping well.

His personality too has been different. He is usually pretty happy and content. Not these days. He cries and whines and whines and cries...he is only napping one hour/day and used to go for 3 hours. He is aggressive...he won't let me change his diapers without FREAKING out, and he isn't happy just sitting and playing...I am pulling him off things all day and he cries when i do.

Anyone go through this? I hate feeling this way, I love my baby but very frustrated and i find myself getting angry and I know I shouldn't. He is just a baby, but man...he is acting like a bratty toddler, lol.

Mine are 9 months also. I am going through this too with Chat Icon . She's definitely cutting a tooth but it hasnt come through yet. Part of me thinks its the age (she doesnt want to stop trying to pull up or stand and definitely hates being changed) and the other part of me is hoping its just the teething. Chat Icon has been fine so far.

My daughter always seemed to act better when we were out and about -- her worst was saved for at home. If you've noticed the same, I'd start planning some trips to the park, to the mall, to the grocery store, wherever helps you pass the time!

My daughter has always been tempermental, but it does get worse when she's about to reach a major developmental milestone, or when she's teething quite badly. I know it can be frustrating, particulalry if you have friends who have an "easy" baby who doesn't seem to be going through the same kind of mood swings, but I'll tell you this, it usually makes for an absolutely hysterical and adorable toddler down the road! Try to remember that when he's acting this way, or getting tempermental it has absolutely no reflection on YOU or your parenting skills, and it also doesn't mean that he's a bad baby. It just means that he's exploring his world, and exploring his own personality. I found, at least for myself, the sooner I accepted my daughter's personality in all its glory, the better off we both were. Instead of getting angry or frustrated, I just giggle to myself and think, ohhhh those poor boys she's going to date when she gets older Chat Icon

Matthew is going through the same thing...I had sych a hard few days with him, he is up at night hysterical, and during the day his naps have been shorter and he is so clingy to me and whiny. His upper teeth are coming in because they are swollen and starting to blister, and then Christopher gets upset because I'm giving so much attention to MatthewChat Icon

Totally normal! Molly just turned 8 months and now refuses to go to bed at night. She has always gone down so easy, now she fights it. Mostly because she has just started standing up in her crib and can't get down. It will work itself out.Chat Icon

Re: I am going through a very hard time with my 9 month old

I just have to say THANK YOU so much for your words.

I hate feeling guilty over not wanting to start another day like this..(2 weeks worth of "on no, here we go...).

And I do feel alone a lot b/c others people babies seem so quiet, content and maybe a little fussy here and there but oh boy does my boy have a personality!!!

I also started a new job at home, and its hard to get stuff done..then i feel guilt over putting him in the pack n play only to hear him whine.

I do hope it gets better....I'm sure it will and i guess i am lucky to have such a spirited boy. He did give me a kiss before and it made me feel a lot better :)

Re: I am going through a very hard time with my 9 month old

I am going through this with Steven now. He is getting 4 on top and now I just noticed 2 on the bottom, all of them are "right there."

I was the same way as you, and actually looked forward to coming to work for a break after spending 2 hours with him, one of which was all crying.

Yesterday I gave him Motrin in the morning for the first time. Let me tell you...he was like his old self again. I was so happy and my mom said he napped and did everything normally. I didn't give him any this morning because he was OK, but gave it to my mom to give him if he starts up again. As much as I don't really want to give him pain meds, I really think it took the edge off.

Re: I am going through a very hard time with my 9 month old

MY DD went through the same thing around 8 months. She is finally coming out of it now and she is a little over 10 months. The teeth cutting really does make them miserable. Parker is also very temperamental and gets bored if I spend to much time in the house. She loves to get out even if we go to the store or sit outside. It's a great way to break up the day. Hang in there. It will pass!! Chat Icon
