I am having an issue and need some advice - MMR related
So, we are going to Italy in a few weeks. I called up my ped to make sure Jack was up to date on all of the necessary shots for traveling internationally (thanks to Sophie for thinking of that) and he strongly suggests that he gets the MMR before going.
A reaction can happen between 5-15 days - so I need to do this asap.
I was planning on delaying it (which my ped didn't agree with but was ok w/ me doing) but now I think I have to bite the bullet and give it to him.
Am I making the wrong decision? I could never forgive myself. I could cry right now.
What is your MMR experience?
ETA: I Just saw Dediko's post about the MMR - going to read it now - I apologize in advance if it's the same question. I didn't even look at the boards before posting

Mikayla has not had it yet because my ped does it at 15 months and at her 15 month visit, she was sick. She is getting it on Thursday when she goes.
I cannot tell you what to do but I would NEVER bring my dc out of the country without his vaccinations

Tough Call and only you can make the decision. DD is 2 1/2 and she does not have her MMR - I will give it to her at 3 or older. She has travelled out of the country several times she was born.

Re: I am having an issue and need some advice - MMR related
I am very big on delaying MMR (DS is 28 months and doesn't have it yet), but for international travel, it would be a must-do for me. If you read the reports of recent measles outbreaks in the U.S., practically every single one was known to have started with a person who got sick in another country and brought it back here. Measles, among other diseases, is much more common outside of the U.S.

I agree with this. However, my DD got her first MMR combo shot at 18 months and didn't have a reaction (she did, however, have a reaction to the chicken pox shot).

If I were going out of the country I would definitely give it BUT I think YOU and DH have to do what you feel is right in your heart. Why dont you ask your DR to explain the pros and cons...maybe you will feel better.

I would get it since you are traveling internationally. I had to also give in so to speak and give him vaccines that I wanted to delay because we went on a cruise. Andrew is fine

And to hopefully put your mind at ease a little....
What was your MMR experience? It was overall very good - and you know how I felt about being nervous. I stood and got all emotional in front of you but I am very grateful to say that it has all been okay. I marked the window of time on the calendar and was extra vigilant...Lucas had no side-effects or reactions at all. So hopefully Jack will have the same experience.
Definitely talk to your doctor about what to look for, what to do and what medications to bring with you to Italy. Definitely pack your own medications - tylenol, motrin, etc.

I etd b.c I didn't want to scare you with DD's reaction. I would just advise that if you are going to do it - do it asap - b.c DD had a reaction on day 9 after the shot.

Diana - Ale had NO reaction whatsoever. I know every baby is different but really I would do it BEFORE travelling.
Did he say anything about Hep A???

Re: I am having an issue and need some advice - MMR related
I'm sure that's a tough decision But I'd think I would choose to give it to him, ASAP, so that he's protected and any reaction to it would be gone by the time you went to Italy.

When are you leaving? You could still split. 1 vaccine every 10-15 days.
So 1 tomorrow Next one in 7-15 days (depending what your ped says) Last one 1 week before you leave.

Emma had no reaction either. I was all prepared for her to get a reaction while we were away at GWL since it was during that "window" after the shot but nothing. He'll be fine and better safe than sorry (with the measles!)
