I am looking for childcare

Ive been calling places and found one that is 1,099 a month. I really think it is so expensive. Does anyone know of any cheaper routes. P.S. I live in Holbrook/Sayville area.

Re: I am looking for childcare

What about a person who does it privately- in their own home?

I would think- lots of women who do it from home are very reasonable- I know of people in eastern Suffolk area- Miller Place? Is that too far for you?

I'm in the process of doing this now. I will only need someone part time and want in home care. I got a list of agencies that provide this type of service. I"m a little early in finding in home care but at least I have a list and know what the process is.

I went to my local library an they had a booklet made up of all the reputable child care in the area. This included schools and out of peoples homes. Maybe give it a try, yours might have something loke this too.

Re: I am looking for childcare

$1K per month is the normal, average cost of full time daycare.

You get a $5K tax credit each year..but of course that is NOT $5K in your pocket which stinks..but it is better than nothing. If you use a home-based care giver make sure that you are still able to use the tax credit. If they don't claim the income then you can't use the tax credit.

Also, confirm that they are licensed and have CPR and first aid training. Will this person drive your child anyplace? Will she take him/her shopping during the day or to pick up her other children from activities? Are you comfortable with that? How baby-proofed and safe is her home? What is her fire escape plan? If the children are on a 2nd or 3rd floor does she have fire ladders? Does this person have a pool in their yard? if so, is in above or inground? What is the pool safety? Does this person have a fire arm in their home- perhaps her husband is a cop or a hunter? If so, are you comfortable with that? What is her vacation policy- how often, how much notice do you get, do you pay for the time she is off? Also, what is her sick policy..meaning if she or one of her children is sick? Who watches the children if she is unable to due to a family emergency or her being sick or because her child has a doctor appointment?
