I am on a waiting list for daycare
How insane is that? My baby isn't even born yet. Its almost funny.

I believe it...the baby room gets filled so quickly since, because of its ratio...it has the least amount of spots...

I know it's crazy, but it's really normal.
I know someone who has to go back to work next week and hasn't looked into daycare options yet. "How hard can it be?"

It's the same up here in CT. The place we are enrolling her in waitlist started in Sept! Nothing sooner. OUr is due in May, she will be signed up by the end of this month for Sept enrollment (hopefully!)

The daycare I am looking into is in the city- on the upper west side.
I wasn't even thinking about it but I met a nanny who is babysitting for my neice but who was recommended to me to be a full time nanny. Since I wasn't even decided on the whole nanny/daycare issue I figured I better start researching.
One day care priced themselves out at $18,000 a year. If you pay monthly there is a $75 fee. Unfortunately, this one is right down the block from my apartment.
Another day care (the one with the list) is $1700 a month for full time day care (8-6) 5 days a week.

I just spoke to a woman at work who said she has to get a nanny because most daycares will not take a baby younger then 6 months so keep that in mind too.

Even though my company pays for a percentage of the daycare, I still went early to sign my kids up.
The daycare takes infants from 6 weeks. I didn't leave them until they were 12 weeks though.

All the places I got quotes from take children from 3 months +, which is when I will be returning to work. But there are lots of places that don't take children under 2. You just have to ask.

that's not true. Many, many places take babies from 6 weeks and up. You have to be specially licensed for children under a certain age and there is no difference of being certified for a 6 week baby and a 6 month baby.
My center takes infants 6 weeks and up...and we're a big cooperation!
