I am pretty sure this is a great price for the Niklon D40

Am I right? Do you really need the 2nd lens? What other accessories do I need?

This is a good price

BUT....

Make sure you do your background check on this vendor.

Check that it is manufactured in the US and NOT an import. Imports are sometimes issues and warranties may not work

Make sure it's not refurbished

I have a D40x and did not get the 55-200mm lens. Mostly because I did not want to keep switching lenses. That being said, I DO miss the 55-200 range.

The 18-200mm VR lense is NOT in my budget and I had wish I had got the 18-135mm lense as an alternative.

Do you think there will be deals around holiday time. I am getting $$ from family for christmas to buy this but I want to buy it ahead of time and be able to use it for christmas. Maybe I can get a good deal closer to Christmas. I want to buy it at a store rather than online. hmmm, I think I may wait a bit and do some more research

Yes, there will be deals.

I got mine on Black Friday last year. They also had great deals for the Holidays. It was only $20 cheaper if I had waited closer to Christmas but they had lots of stock.

Circuit City had great deals last year. I got mine online from another place.

Steph, did you check out Wolf Camera up on Providence? I would also really want the second (zoom) lens. I have gotten some great pics of her with that. Good luck!
