I am sending a care package to Iraq for my brother..any suggestions??
Hi!
This will be my second package to him....he is not specific about what he wants.
For those who have done this, any suggestions?? What was most needed/appreciated? I have a bunch of snacks and microwaveable food...wet ones (he said they get a lot of sand in their face..)
Some reading material...
Anything I'm missing??

When my friends were over there, they always asked for condiments. They said people send food all the time, but no one sends condiments, so that's what we'd send along with batteries for their cameras/personal electronics, magazines...I forget what else, let me think.

We sent a lot of the above to DH's friend deployed to Egypt and Tinactin spray to keep his feet athletes foot free.
I also baked some cranberry almond biscotti which I was told kept very well on the trip over, and was much appreciated.

Re: I am sending a care package to Iraq for my brother..any suggestions??
My brother was in the Persian Gulf on the USS Eisenhower, I dont know if you brother has access to the same things my brother did but here's what I sent him:
Something Homebaked, his favorite was peanut butter brownies Twizzlers Magazines, usually Maxim A long letter from me Chips (the ones in the little bags) DVDs Microwave Popcorn and Soups Cards Handheld Poker Games Books (we have similar taste)
He could email us sometimes, so I'd always ask him what he needed. He wanted good pens more than anything for some reason.
My mom always sent him a little cash for when he was at Port, which was rare.
My best wishes to your brother!!

Re: I am sending a care package to Iraq for my brother..any suggestions??
ooo i have sent tons of these since bil and my cousin have been there several times
here are some of the items i remember to requested alot
chapstick baby wipes EZ mac & cheese qtips dental floss popcorn beef jerky Deodorant whatever there favortite body soap toothbrush powered gatorade ot koolaid mix
and once i was asked for a frizbee, lol
if you are sending girly magazines, be very careful, you must hide them in the box, if there box gets searched they will remove them and not recieve them, they are against somekind or iraq religious thing and are not acceptable there

My friend was stationed over there a few months ago and he sent this list of what NOT to pack based on military restrictions.
"Anything can be sent to me as long as it's not porn or alcohol. Porn to these guys can be as innocent as Maxim or the SI Swim Suit Edition."

Re: I am sending a care package to Iraq for my brother..any suggestions??
my brother always asked for
baby wipes pillows/cases tshirts underwear more baby wipes
they have a ton of food options now...so it's not as necessary as it was in the beginning...but if you know his favorite stuff, that would be nice (my girlfriend got chocolates from Jacques Torres from her parents a few times...I sent her condoms )
pictures are nice, and letters from friends and such.
ETA: yes no alcohol, and no porn. it's out of RESPECT for their religious beliefs...it's not allowed "in country"

Re: I am sending a care package to Iraq for my brother..any suggestions??
my good friend is a contractor over there (but she's more stuck in the green zone than out in the thick of everything)
she always wants dunkin doughnuts coffee!
so if he's ever somewhere that actually has such an amenity (coffee machine), maybe he'd like that too?

Re: I am sending a care package to Iraq for my brother..any suggestions??
Edited b/c I found the answer to my question: Only send home baked goods to soldiers who know you. If you are sending it through a program like any soldier, they will throw away homemade goods. They can only accept food items sealed in their manufacturer's packaging. (Makes sense.)

My friend was there and she always asked for chap-stick baby powder baby wiped tuna (the kind in the bag that doesn't need to be drained) twizzlers
I send oatmeal raisin cookies and she said they made it there good. I also used to send her cany for whatever holiday was coming up. Like cany corn around halloween and peeps before easter.
