I am so $*#&$#@$ angry right now!!! -UPDATED

I am on a prep right now and I HAVE to tell someone about this because I am so freakin ****** and all of my friends are teaching their classes right now.

2 months ago we booked a trip for my class and another special ed class to see the Christmas spectacular at Radio City for tomorrow....we pre-paid for the tickets on October 3rd, and I submitted all of my paperwork for the AP to schedule bussing.

Back then she asked me how many kids in the other class who was going where wheelchair accessable, and I told her 3, but that since I was not their teacher she'd have to confirm that. I also spoke with the other teacher and made sure that she knew she had to speak with the AP about it so that she can order the busses.

This whole time I thought everything was fine, and then today she just came to me saying that a parent dropped off a permission slip in the office and she doesn't have any record of us going on a trip tomorrow. She *claims* that noone ever let her know how many kids needed a wheelchair accessable bus, so she never submitted it for bussing.

First of all, I let her know verbally on a few different occasions that it was 3 kids but that she needed to confirm with the other teacher, not me. I also let the other teacher know (and I spoke with her, she said that she confirmed with her also) so I did everything that I was supposed to. This was CLEARLY her mistake, NOT mine.

To boot when she came into the room she completely flipped it around, making it out like it's my fault, becuase it's my trip. That I must need to remind her like 47,000 times and telling her 3 times and also letting the other teacher know obviously isn't enough.

I flipped out on her. I completely responded aggressively and unprofessionally, and I am probably going to get written up for insubordination or some cr@p like that, because I was PI$$ED!!!!! Not only did the kids all pay $10 for their tickets but I put out $235 of my own money to order the tickets since we had to order them so far in advance, and I have only been reembursed $50 of that. I still haven't been reembursed for $175 that I put out since the school was supposed to be paying for half of the ticket price since they had special ed money for it, and all of a sudden I'm going to be out of that money becuase the AP never processed the bussing for the trip?

I am sorry for ranting for so long and sounding like such a big complainer, but I am just beyond furious right now. I already spoke with the union rep and need to calm down so I can speak with the main principal next.

What a shame for you and your students
As far as you losing your temper, I think being in that situation, it would be hard to stay calm.

Is there anything she or the Principal can scramble together?

What is it with scatterbrained administrators? How unfair. I hope it all works out and that the kids can go- I know it will mean so much to them because so many of the parents can't or won't take them to things like this.

I shelled out a lot of my own money for a trip to see A Christmas Carol at Town Hall- I am still waiting for almost $200 to come in from the kids. I feel your pain.

Well, the IEP teacher was able to get buses --- so I HOPE everything goes over OK tomorrow for the trip! I was and still am completely LIVID about the entire situation. When the UFT rep came into the room (she's our dance teacher) I was telling her about it and I just burst out crying. I was hysterical because it is such a big deal for my students to go to Radio City --- I work in a bad area --- most of them have never seen something like Radio City in their life and might not again for a long time ----- my kids kept asking me what was wrong and every time another adult came into the room after that a few of them announced that their teacher was crying.

It just got me so mad, and I'm thinking about going to my main principal tomorrow, but debating how I should go about doing it. I just hope the buses they said they can get go through OK for tomorrow and that everything is OK!

I know where you work, and you're right, not many get to go on any kind of trip, let alone to see the Christmas Spectacular.

The important thing is that the kids know nothing about any problems, and you should be applauded for that.

I hope you all have a wonderful time today, and that you get reimbursed in full and ensure this does not happen again.

I've gotten burned by people like that so I try to put everything in writing. Even after a verbal conversation, I write an email "as per our conversation today..." and lay it all out again.

It appears anal at times but has saved my butt numerous times over the years. I hope everything works out for you and your kids.

Well guys, we had our trip to Radio City today.

It was AWESOME!

We ended up still having some busing fiascos, but it all worked out in the end, and I was silently brought to tears when we walked into the main area of Radio City and I turned around to look at all of my students behind me and they were all just awe-struck.

It was so funny to see so many of their mouthes dropped. And throughout the show they were just so excited, clapping and cheering for the Rockettes, oohing and aahing, it was just adorable.

At one point, this little boy who is a TOTAL hyper pain-in-the-rump most of the times tapped another boy on the leg since the other boy had his feet up on the chair in front of him and said "Put your feet down, they're gonna kick us out!"

And when we got back to the school they kept telling everyone how fancy it was and how the bathrooms had couches in them!

I feel so good now that it all worked out and that I was able to give these kids such a great experience!

oh, i'm so glad it went well! I would have loved to see the look on those kids' faces. Heck, my DH was at Radio City for the first time a few weeks ago, and he thought it was amazing!
