I am so computer dumb..help!

My dh and I are thinking about getting a computer system for my family for christmas. They need a whole new system and internet service. I am horrible with things like this and we cant afford to go overboard but at the same time I dont know whats good and whats not.

Can anyone give me any feedback? I hear Dell is pretty good and affordable...anyone?

Re: I am so computer dumb..help!

what do they need it for? just basic internet and word processing kind of stuff??

My parents bought a new Dell last year.. and while its Beautiful, and has Everything you can think of- they have had SOOO many problems with it... and the customer service SSSSSUCKS big time.

we bought a new computer a few months ago, and decided to go the economy route- we got an E-machines, and its been great so far. Even including the 19" LCD screen we got (not e-machines)-- the whole thing came to well under $1,000.

its not top of the line- but if youre looking to get them a 'start' type- i would definitely recommend it

We've had our Dellfor 3 1/2 years now...we like it! And the whole thing...computer, moniter, keyboard and a printer/scanner/copier was only like $800!

If I wasn't making my own, I'd buy a Dell only.

Another vote for Dell. I have an IBM laptop at work which is pretty good but our company just switched back to purchasing Dells.

If you want - I may be able to get you our company code for a discount if you can't find any others online. They're not combinable so let me know what you find.

Dell too. We had a Compaq and was good in the beginning but the Dell is sooo much better. We also got a good deal last year. It was about $900 total for everything.

Re: I am so computer dumb..help!

Dell will give you a good computer... and excellent bang for the buck.

But their customer service is PISS POOR.

I like HP. We use all HP at work... and they very rarely fail. You should look for a sale over the weekend for a PC.

You only need the basics. Don't spend more than $1000 for it.
