I am so confused and dont know what to do any thoughts would be appreciated...

I originally wanted white cabinets, always have and I love them. I hate the look of wood cabinets. Well, my dh says he will go with whatever I want but he keeps gearing me to a Maple spice color, which is beautiful, but not what I wanted, and of course two of my friends tell me that one had white and hated cleaning them all the time and the other says white looks very institutional, but is buying a condo with a new kitchen and white cabinets. We are at the point where we have to order the cabinets within the next week and I dont know what to do, order the maple spice and know they look nice even though they are not what I wanted or go with white and let everyone tell me how wrong I was to do this.

I wish I could hire someone to do all this.

I have white cabinets and had them in my last home too. I love them and while they may show any dirt, they are very easy to clean. The dirt is on other color cabinets too, you just don't see it

I don't think they look institutional at all. Maybe if you go with a flat door with no panel or features, but there are many different styles out there. I'm going with white in one bathroom too.

go with your gut, I've learned to take any help with a grain of salt. I personally don't care for white cabinets, but I know a lot of people love them. IF its your dream kitchen, then go with white, its what you always wanted.

the cabinets in the house i am buying are white. i really like them. they have silver accents, so we are going to put ss appliances in one day -and the backsplash is blue/gray slate. The countertops are a slate colored formica (definitely changing to granite) with a wood trim, and wood floors.

if you get the country white type of cabinets, i don't think it will look institutional!

I LOVE white cabinets and DH also was trying to convince me to go darker. But now that the white cabinets are in he admits he loves them too. We didnt order pure white though, they are kinda off white/creamish and we got really nice chrome knobs and handles for them.

Go with your gut, look at a ton of pics of both light and dark cabinets and see what pops out at you more. For me, nicely done white cabinets always catches my attention.

I have cherry cabinets in my home but happen to love white cabinets. Go with what you love b/c you'll have that kitchen for many many years!

I love white cabinets. They are so classic. You can do a vintage/retro look or a contemporary traditional look. I think they are easier to work with. I prefer them over wood anyday. I also think woods tend to be trendy in a way. Back in the day Oak was the think now it's Maple. Don't get me wrong, I think Maple cabinets are nice but the white cabinets can change with the times.

What about a lighter wood cabinet?

This is a picture of my old kitchen. The color from the manufacturer is called Seaspray. It was a light wood... off white with barely noticeable streaks of color in it... very barely there blue, etc. My FIL has a sample of the door so I can look for you.

Here you see it up against white appliances so you can get a better idea of the color.

If you want white, go with it! Don't listen to anyone else, it's not THEIR house!
