I am starting stims tonight - UPDATE
Just got the call and I am starting my stims tonight I will continue the lupron (10 units) every morning, and will start menopur (2 powders) and dexamethosone tonight. I go back on Sunday to see how I'm progressing. Dr. Brenner just called and told me that my second thyroid levels came back - the repeat test was normal, but the initial test was borderline high. I have to go back in again tomorrow to run some more thyroid tests. He said I shouldn't be overly concerned, but that I will need to watch this as it may present a problem in the future. I can't believe by next week that I will be close to my retrieval!!

Re: I am starting stims tonight
Well, I just did my first menopur shot. The shot (needle) itself wasn't nearly as bad as I expected, but no one told me that the actual injection of the medicine burns I was not expecting that, and injected the medicine in much slower because it was stinging. Did this happen to anyone else with the menopur shot??

Thanks, Shannon. I didn't mean to scare you I just wasn't expecting the burning feeling AT ALL. I don't feel a thing with the lupron, but with the menopur, I definitely felt burning. At least you'll be prepared for when you do it and won't be surprised like me!

LOL- no worries! I can take it It's funny- the menopur is no big deal to me, even though I've never taken it... I keep feeling like it's given w/ a syringe similar to lupron and it's a stimulant like gonal-f--- so I'm trying not to think about it. The nurse called it "pile A" of meds-so I'm just dealing w/ those right now. Now Pile B is a totally diff. story- they've freaked me out for a week now- and it wasn't until I saw someone at church and talked w/ her (she was a nurse)- she said she's going to be our 'backup' in case DH can't do this (or I won't allow him to )... there's just something totally making me about the IM shots---- I know we'll get through it, but the thought is just a little overwhelming to me now- so I've put it out of my mind (as much as possible ) until it's time to deal w/ Pile B

I take repronex which I think is the same thing...
First, make sure there is not any meds dripping out of the needle....that stings when it hits your skin!!!
Secondly, let the syringe sit for 10-15 minutes after you mix...before you inject...it really does help
Good luck!!

10-15 minutes - really?! Wow, I'm so glad you mentioned that, hopefully that will help when I do my shot tonight! Thanks!

Yeah, some nights the menopur stung and other nights it didn't for me. But, nothing was as bad as the time I didn't wait for the alcohol to dry. Ouch!

I did my second shot last night and it wasn't as bad as the first night. I just wasn't expecting it at all the first night. The needle itself didn't hurt, but as I pushed the medicine in, it stung a bit. It's definitely bearable and just stings until all the medicine is in. Good luck!
