I am such a laid back parent, but I had my first major scare today...
So...we were at a family party today. We had all just eaten and Christopher was a mess, so my mom took him out of his booster and took off his pants. I had walked away to go to the ladies room and I came back and he was trying to reach into a bucket of water that held water balloons. My mom said to me "he seems to think this is funny". It didn't really make me happy, but I was standing there, as was she, so I didn't argue.
Not even 2 minutes later, he reaches down and falls face first into the tub, of course I grab him, he wasn't even under a full minute, but I freaked. I was so scared for those seconds I couldn't even believe it.
Automatically everyone is going "he is fine, he is fine" and I *knew* he was fine, but it just scared the CRAP out of me, so I had to take a break and go to the front yard by myself....it was no ones fault and he WAS fine, but I needed to be by myself.
It just drove me nuts that everyone said he was fine right away, well, DUH, I know that, and I even knew it then, but I was freaked out!

I think the "he's fine" comments are just an automatic reaction- almost to reassure THEMSELVES that everything is OK.
Mads did the SAME THING 2 weeks ago- except she took a header into the beer tub at a family BBQ (nice, huh?). Everyone who saw did the whole, "She's fine, she's fine" bit too. I admit it scared the bejeezes outta me too....
Glad "he's fine"......
