I can't get out of my own way.
I know all the things to do to drop the 20lbs I need to. I exercise regullary and have a gym in my house, yet I eat way too much. I get overwhelmed with everything I need to do to drop the weight. I can vision what I want to look like and in my minds eye to get there seams so easy, yet it's like I can't get out of my own way to get to that goal. Why is this? How do you find a way to eat less each day?

Re: I can't get out of my own way.
I think it is important to take small steps each day and work slowly to achieve the goals you want. I think too often, we expect ourselves to just make a complete overhaul of our eating and exercise habits overnight and we wind up not succeeding because it is just too much at once.
I find what helps me when I am in a rut of not eating well is to set small goals each week. For example, maybe the first week I work on making sure I eat a healthy breakfast every day. Then the next week, I will try to incorporate better lunches (while still keeping the healthy breakfasts) and healthier snacks into my routine. I will also try to reduce the number of sugary drinks and sodas I am having. It's a slow process, but it's not overwhelming. I also don't cut out anything completely - I just limit how often and how much I have.
As for eating less, I find that the more planning I do in advance, the healthier I eat. For example, I try to plan out a few healthy lunches and dinners for the week. Then I make sure that I have everything I need home to make it. I also try to keep healthy snacks in the fridge and I take them to work with me. I pack my lunch and snacks the night before so there is no excuse in the morning!
I think making small changes over time will make you less overwhelmed and you won't be in your way anymore! HTH!

you can start by not eating less, but eating the right foods.
what do you usually eat in a regular day?

Re: I can't get out of my own way.
snowboardgirl - it's not so much the food, but how often I eat. I always feel bloated and crappy. I'll eat oatmeal and fruit for breakfast, sometimes nuts or pretzels for snacks. Luch is always a little leftovers, fruit and 1 serv. of junkfood. When I get home from work is where it all goes wrong. I end up eating whatever I'm in the mood for (which sometimes isn't healthy). Then I'll have a small portion of dinner and sometimes dessert (again whatever I'm in the mood for). I love that 'empty' feeling, but can't seem to ever get there. I work at a desk all day long with little activity. It just might be I no longer have the willpower I once had.

Re: I can't get out of my own way.
you can eat often and still eat right, actually, that is how you should be eating anyway. I eat over 5-6 times a day. Just eat the right foods.
oatmeal, fruit, nuts, pretzles, junk food...no wonder you are bloated! you need to eat protein with EVERY meal, and the right carbs, then you shouldn't be bloated.
when you say bloated, do you mean with air? or do you feel too full?
sorry for all the questions.

I agree...Carbs should only be eaten in the morning...and only WHOLE Grains. You also need to drink water and a lot of it...and NO junk food. I would set one day aside for treating yourself to something yummy. As long as you eat well 90% of the time the other 10 you can eat whatever you want

Re: I can't get out of my own way.
Snowboardgirl - I usually feel bloated with both air and feeling full. I don't eat large meals, so I'm guessing it's just the food I do eat. Can you give me an example day of what I probably should be eating (to lose 20lbs)? Thanks.
