sounds like my class, but theres less of them, theres always some kind of commotion going on.

Ugh...I have 27 right now- it's too freakin many!

Is there someone in your school that you can ask for some help from? Maybe a guidance counselor or a special ed teacher? I know you want to solve it yourself, but it sounds like it is simply too much for one person to physically do. I had a student that was like that, and I eventually worked something out with a special ed teacher that he would go to her room when he was unable to function in our classroom. Could be for ten mintutes, could be an hour.....it was a break for the rest of us, as well. He would just kinda go into a corner in her library and get himself together.

What was this child's year like last year? Is your admin aware of the extent of the disruption?

I have a strong tendancy in situations like this to try to just deal with it myself, but you can drive yorself nuts like that (I am slowly learning!) You have to reach out, it's not right for you to have to deal with it on your own.

Sounds like you are doing eveything you can at this time. Try not to get down on yourself- you may have special ed cert, but there is a reason those teachers don't have 28 kids in the room at once with one teacher.

You have a lot on your plate right now with this boy- and you have 27 other little ones who are just watching and waiting for your attention to be elsewhere- you can't do it all!

You're certified in SE but you don't have that setting- so don't beat yourself up.

Definitely follow through with all referrals. The regular class is not the setting for him, that is clear. Mom is in denial- maybe if a counselor speaks to her, that will help her see that he needs a smaller setting.

The other children in your class will be deprived if this boy remains in your class. It's not fair to them. I hope your principal sees this and supports you.

I hear you and I have 10 less than you. I have one that crawls on the floor and barks like a dog WHAT the hell is going on this year
