I can't take this diaper rash anymore on Erin....
I feel so bad for her. She has had this diaper rash for 2 weeks now. She is very red, but the skin is not broken or peeling or anything like that. She isn't in any discomfort when you touch her or wipe her, but this rash is not getting any better. I have tried EVERYTHING. A&D, Balmex, Butt Paste, Triple Paste, Cornstarch, Baby powder. NOTHING is working. The Dr even called in a prescription diaper rash ointment which has not helped at all. The only thing I have not done is let her go diaper less.
NOW, as of yesterday, she is not eating much at all, she is crying a lot, and looks so pale. The only thing I can think of is that she is in pain from the rash. No fever either. She wakes up every few hours at night, when she normally sleeps from 9pm to 7am.
I am calling the dr when they open at 10.

My friends doctor actually had her mash up antacid tabs and mix it with the diaper cream...I think she used tums...it actually worked...you could always give it a try?!

Quick question..any chance she has a food allergy?? Chronic diaper rash can sometimes be the result of a food allergy....

She might have a fungal infection...that is chronic. If you get some cream for that it will go away in a few days time.

Well, she is only on formula still, so I don't think that is it.
I was also thinking maybe she has some allergy to the diapers or wipes, but she is only red on her va-jay-jay and sides of her chubby little legs, so it can't be that.
She looks so miserable.

I did get that prescription cream, it's called Fusion, and it didn't even help one bit.

I read also that trying plain old maalox works too....soak a cotton ball in it, rub on area and do this every other diaper change.
You never know!! It can't hurt and it makes total sense that an antacid could help that chapped skin.

Make sure you ask your ped about these options b4 you try them. I wouldn't go rubbing maalox on DD's vagina.

Take off the diaper! Let the skin air dry and dry up that rash!! and don't use wipes. instead take her tushie over to the sink and wash her off in there in luke warm water and then pat dry her bottom.

You're right, i would call on any home remedy before i did it...but my friends doctor did swear by the antacids and they are safe...I'm sure it depends on the doctor, but her diaper rash was gone the day after.

Ask for a different prescription, it might work better.

When DD has bad rashes I found gobbing Neosporin on under regular cream really helps. IF it looks pimply my ped suggests Lotrimin.
I hope she fee's better soon

Re: I can't take this diaper rash anymore on Erin....
DD had a chronic diaper rash and the doctor said it was eczema, I used some hydrocoritsone cream 2x/day and it went away...
Also, it could be yeast but doesn't sound like it...

Re: I can't take this diaper rash anymore on Erin....
DD had a rash only on her legs that wouldn't go away for weeks - I switched diapers (from the ones that I had been using forever) and magically it went away. I guess that I will be buying the cheaper ones from now on

Re: I can't take this diaper rash anymore on Erin....
What kind of wipes do you use? Maybe their irritating the skin, at least that has happened with my youngest. I have to use the wipes unsented and if his diaper rash is bad then I also have to use wet paper towels instead of wipes for a day or two and then it clears up other wise triple paste has done well for us to. However being it's been going on for so long it's probably a good idea to call the dr again. Hope your dd is feeling better soon.

Re: I can't take this diaper rash anymore on Erin....
We have used the following in my DH's family for years now... it works on every type of rash, even the most severe in a very short amount of time.
Get a container of vaseline, dump into a bowl and mix in Gold Bond Medicated powder to form a paste. Mix well, return to vaseline container and there's your diaper creme.
My DH's cousin's adopted baby arrived yesterday with VERY bad diaper rash. My MIL told them to put that on, within 3 hours it was gone.

If you can't get in touch with your doctor, I would try Tah-Wee-Zah's idea (since I've seen it work personally) but leave the diaper off. Do you have an infant tub? You can put her in there to let her air dry.

Re: I can't take this diaper rash anymore on Erin....
Thank you everyone for your replies and FM's!
I took her to the Dr. Now the prescription I was given said to apply only 2x per day.. which is wrong apparantly, so I have to increase it to every diaper change. I thought because it is strong, that it wasn't suppossed to be applied all the time. She said this should work within a day or 2. She also said it could be a allergy to her formula and she isn't digesting it right and that I should try to give her lactose free formula. She gave me samples, but before I try that, I will try the cream and other suggestions on here.
Thanks again and lets pray this works.

Re: I can't take this diaper rash anymore on Erin....
I had the same problem a week or 2 ago. It ended up being a yeast infection from antibiotics. I forget the name of the cream doc gave me (not fusion) but it worked great but it took a few days. FM me if you need the name. Good luck! Nothing else worked for me either. I even tried letting her run around with no diaper.
