I can't take this pain anymore

The sciatica in my right leg has gotten unbearable...and I'm only 13 weeks today Chat Icon

I have a chiropractor appt. today at 2, and I'm going to tell him that I literally can't take this anymore. I can't sit or lay down without feeling like someone is stabbing me in the leg. I've learned to eat dinner standing up.

Now it's even interfering with my sleep. Guess what DH and I were doing at 3:30 this morning? We were walking, because the pain woke me up and I couldn't go back to sleep again because of the pain.

How the **** am I supposed to make it through 27 more weeks like this??!!!! Chat Icon

Go for prenatal massage. That's what I did and it really helped...Chat Icon

What about acupuncture? That helped me a lot with reflux. The person I went to treats all sorts of pregnancy related pains.

Feel better. Chat Icon

Did the relief last in the long term, or was it only for a few hours? The chiropractor appts. are helping too, but the pain comes back after about an hour. Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I know EXACTLY how you feel. Can I suggest going to physical therapy? When I went to PT, they told me that a chiropractor would not have helped me (personally) for the sciatica.

They did massages to loosen up the muscles etc.

If you can stretch out your back, and use cold compresses on your back and leg it should help.

I think I will ask for a PT referral today. Chiropractic has really helped with my past lower back problems, so I just assumed it would help with this. Chat Icon

At this point, I'm willing to try anything. I was standing at my window at 3:00 this morning, staring out and sobbing because I'm already at the end of my rope with this pain. Chat Icon

For me, the relief lasted long term. After I had the massage, I didn't have the pain anymore...

The LMT told me to alternate ice patch/warm compress while I was home to help if I had any further pain.

Re: I can't take this pain anymore

I am so sorry.Chat Icon I had sciatica from before I was pregnant and it has gotten so much worse. I know how you feel and I have been in tears from it several times. It might not hurt as much and then all of a sudden BOOM - unable to put any weight on my leg and I can't walk. Make sure first of all that you stay away from flipflops and wear good sneakers with alot of support. Also my doc told me to stand facing a wall and try to do backward leglifts. Its hurts like hell and I can barely do it on my bad leg but it helps loosen it up. 5 times each side 3 reps each. I hope you feel better.

I've been there, I've had many sleepless nights thinking I was never going to feel better.

I posted this on a thread a week or so ago, some stretches that the PT had me doing.

I feel your pain. Luckily mine isn't 24/7...yet but it is so bad after a day of working on my feet 10 hours that I can barely walk.
I am thinking of trying accupuncture.

Ice packs do help a lot. The sciatic nerve is all inflamed and the ice packs help reduce the swelling. The other weekend I literally couldn't walk, stand up straight and forget sitting. I was stuck laying down on my side. I iced where I thought the swelling was for about 6 hours straight, and then slept with an ice pack on my back that night. The next day I was much better, and within a few days sooooo much better.

I had to walk mine out. I hobbled around a track, dragging this dead leg around and one day, it just went away.Chat Icon

Re: I can't take this pain anymore *UPDATE*

Thanks everyone for your responses.

Yesterday, DH and I went swimming for about 2 hours. Most of the time I just floated around on a noodle (LOL) but we did some swimming too. When I got out of the pool, the pain was GONE!!!!

Of course, it was short-lived...after sleeping on it all night, it came back full-force. But at least I know SOMETHING will give me a couple of hours of relief!

I'm scheduled to start PT on Monday, and I'm hoping that will help, too.

I'm hoping that it'll just go away one day like many of you said it did for you...I hope and pray that's what happens to me.

I will keep you all posted. Chat Icon
