"I consider myself a Diversity Candidate"

I just applied for a job on Monster.com, and after everythign has been filled out and written up, 3 buttons popped up at the end where I had to:

a. Identify my race
b. Identify my gender
c. Identify if I consider myself a Diversity Candidate

Under all that, there was a notation saying that this employee is dedicated to creating a place of diversity at the work place, and likes to to hire people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages and lifestyles...

Of course, if that's really what they are after, my chances as a 30 something straight little white girl just went out the window Chat Icon ... but WT eeeFFF??? Is this common? I have NEVER seen anything of that kind before in my life... I mean, are those questions even legal? What happened to basing opinion on a person's resume rather than on the fact that you would like to have more ethnic transgender people over 50 working for you??

On second thought, I do have a bit of a foreign accent... Maybe I should have checked that Diversity Candidate button...Chat Icon Chat Icon

If the company does business with the federal gov't - i.e. they are a federal contractor - then they are REQUIRED to provide this info about their applicants. You can refuse to answer it and there should be some kind of opt out button.

PS - being female is a protected class so don't worry Chat Icon You count as diverse

Yes; I work for the state and we must also legally ask these questions.
