I cut DS with the nail clipper by accident

I was trimming his nails with the nail clipper and I took a piece of skin off the top of his thumb. It hasn't stopped bleeding for 10 min. DH and I put peroxide on it to clean it out and our holding it with a tissue. It isn't bothering DS too much b/c he already fell back to sleep. Can I put neosporin on it or bacitracin? He is only 5 1/2 wks. I feel horrible. I am afraid he is going to get an infection b/c nail clippers aren't the most sterile, although I used his baby ones.

I know easier said than done, but don't worry he will be fine. I did that to one of my son's toes when he was as young as your son. Like you I felt terrible but he was fine.

I also did that when he was very young. I wrapped his finger in a paper towel and held it up over his head. It eventually stopped. Took some time though, I was so upset!

I cut my son when he was young too. It happens and he will be fine. According to " What to expect during the first year" wash the cut with soap and water, then rinse under running water. Not too concerned in book about nail clipping injuries. My poor son has had his share and he's made it to 3...lol.

Awww I've done that too, reason why DH now has the nail cutting job.

When she was that little, I just used a nail file (emory board, i have little ones that came with her grooming set), their nails are so soft it just comes off. I didn't have to start using the clippers until about 6 months old.

I did that numerous times too, she even got an infection once!

I've done it too I remember it took a good 20 minutes to stop bleeding. I made her a special little bandaid by trimming a big bandaid. It was too funny! I felt like Clara Barton.Anyway, she didn't lose the finger or anything....your DC will be fine.

Awww, he'll be ok. Just keep it clean. I cut my DS when he was 3 weeks old. Now my DH does all the nail cutting.
I wouldnt put any neosporin or bacitracin until you speak to your Dr

Been there 2 times! Now I refuse to cut their nails! DH has the job! I will file them when they get too long and DH is not around!

I've done it once too and felt so bad but within a minute he was fine.
