I did it!
Ran 5K!
I've been running for years now but have TERRIBLE trouble breathing... (I'm a mouth breather) I'm contemplating surgery, it's so bad.
I could barely go 5-10 minutes without having to slow down but I've been working out with a PT since Christmas and he's really working in some cardio circuits within my weight training...
I noticed recently, when I slowed my pace I can run longer (longer than I could before at the same pace)
So today I did it.... Ran 5K at the same pace without stopping... EVEN SPRINTED at 7.0 for 2 minutes afterward! I could have probably kept going (at the slower pace) if I didn't have to get back to the office.
I am sooooooooooo proud b/c I want to start running in 5K races this spring...

Re: I did it!
great job!!!
btw - it's better to breathe through your mouth than your nose when you run. You want as much air and oxygen as you can get. Ideally, you want to breathe in through both the mouth and the nose, but the mouth is a good second option.

thank you! I can't get enough air in quick enough through my nose... but I definitely see a difference with how much I could tolerate. I LOVE how I feel after a run-- but DURING it is usually torture. And it's not b/c I'm fatigued or my body hurts, it's getting winded too easily...
I feel like I could go longer, so each week I'm going to step it up 1/2 a mile...
